ILIS project (2008-2010)* combine the experience and knowledge of five academic partners and their industrial partners in spa management in Finland (TUAS), Poland (AWF), Austria (FH Joanneum), United Kingdom (UCB) and Spain (FLORIDA).

    • How was the journey from an idea to a project accomplished ?
    • Which is widely acknowledged as a core element of the health and wellness movement which covers a broad spectrum of holistic, curative and preventative activities.
    • Spa tourism is a growing activity throughout Europe as “the ageing population and an increasing concern for health are likely to drive a growth in demand for health tourism products and spa services.” - EU (COM, 2006,134 Final).

    Industry partners:
    • To develop an understanding as to the nature and regional characteristics of the spa products and services as an integral part of health tourism offered within the EU and of the demand characteristics for these products and services in each of the regions represented in this project.
    • To determine the extent to which each region is meeting the demand for skilled operatives, middle and senior management in the spa tourism industry.
    • To create common vocational (tertiary level) training and virtual educational modules in cooperation with participating higher education, industry enterprise partners and associates.

    • Educational modules - Virtual learning environment (VLE) in spa management (4 modules x 10 ECTS)

  • Funded by the European Commission
    • ILIS is one of the projects funded by the EC in 2008 within the framework of the ERASMUS programme (Multilateral Projects: Cooperation between higher education and enterprises) .
    • Duration: 1st October 2008 - 1st October 2010
    • Total budget is 392 718 € (75% + 25%)
    • The workload is divided into 6 work packages:
      • Management, research, VLE development, quality, dissemination and exploitation
