  • 1. Presentation of Commercial Space Suit Prototype
  • 2. Introduction
    • First space flight of private SpaceShip One was in 2004.
    • Test pilot was wearing flight suit, oxygen mask and helmet.
    • No space suit!?
  • 3. Space Suits
    • The advantage of space suit is that astronaut’s life will be saving during all active phases of space flight. It now comprises a tool for suborbital flights.
  • 4. Commercial Space Suit applications:
    • Space tourism, Suborbital Space flights
    • NASA Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) - manned and unmanned space transportation system
    • Space jumps (high-altitude jumping)
  • 5. The first homemade commercial space suit in the world
  • 6. Suit advancements: - new big entry system, - easy donning/doffing - easy resizing - low mass

    • Volumetric comfortable helmet Mobility of arms and gloves
  • 8. Seating All test subjects tested the suit in seating position.

  • 9. Questions:
    • What materials are used?
    • The materials of the suit are approved materials for space flights. Strong polyester fabric (Dacron) for restraint layer and latex rubberized nylon for bladder are used. In future we will use some advanced materials such as silicone or polyurethane for suit bladder.
    • List a price range?
    • The cost of suit is the lowest price on the market. The cost depends on type of suit and party of suits
    • Have we done any testing of the suit?
    • We have testing the suit at ILC Dover, DE and in London , UK. The ILC Dover is manufacturer of space suits for NASA since 1958. ILC made tests under pressure. Testing in London includes jumping with parachute.

    • Does the suit offer any thermal protection?
    • The tourist/pilot suits do not provide thermal protection because they are cabin suits or IVA suits. They provide protection against depressurization of cabin and protection against any contaminations. Space jump suit has body wear heating.
    • Will it also need or include a parachute? Parachute need for space jump project only.
    • Will suit operate uninflated normally?
    • The suit operates normally as usual cloth when it is not uninflated.
  • 10. Summary
    • The commercial spacesuits for using in spaceship are designed to save a tourist life in low pressure when a cabin depressurize.
    • Advancements:
      • Low mass: 5- 7kg/ 10- 15pounds only
      • Easy resizing of the suit (anthropometric range in stature are 168-190cm)
      • The best visibility in comfortable helmet
      • The new entry system will enable the tourist to don/doff the suit quickly in 2 minutes
      • Cheapest price on the market
      • Space suit’s family: pilot suit, tourist suit and jump suit
      • Russian and American experience in suit design was used.
