My research and planning for my second music magazine was more detailed and focused than for my preliminary task. I looked specifically at other music magazines and gathered primary and secondary feedback. The photography, graphics, and layout of the music magazine showed more organization and development compared to the preliminary task. While the preliminary task helped me learn the software, my second magazine benefited from increased knowledge and focus during production.

For research and planning I had a week to do this
in my prelim task and only three weeks to create
a front cover and contents page, so my research
was quite thin and I looked at magazines in
general such as fashion magazines rather then
college magazines. However in my music
magazine the research and planning was detailed
and I focused purely on other distributers music
magazines, I was able to get primary and
secondary feedback, unlike my prelim task, and
looked at magazines in depth and in a detailed
way and because of this my skills have been
developed since the prelim task and I have wider
knowledge on how magazines are produced.
From my front covers it is evident that my second
magazine was planned more successfully. The use
of mise-en-scene and layout is more organised
and looks developed compared to my first
magazine. However the prelim task did help me
to familiarise myself with the software so when I
came to do my second magazine I was more
focused and knew what to do.

3. Research and Planning
In my second magazine I also had to think about every aspect of the magazine. I had to create a recce of location
and a risk assessment to ensure the safety of my models and that the area for my photography was
appropriate. I also had to think about make-up and clothing for my models, so that they looked like the genre
of my magazine. However in my prelim task I didn’t think about any of that and you can tell in the images, they
don't really resemble a college magazine. My music magazine photos are more varied, I have used different
angles and different locations for them, where as my prelim was just in the studio.

My time management had to be much more focused in my production of the music magazine. If I didn’t have
deadlines I would of fallen behind in my work and with the increase of work it would of been difficult to
catch up. However in the prelim task we had a three week deadline to create a front cover and a contents
page as well as the planning and researching, therefore the magazine was more basic and not as well
thought through.

5. Construction
The construction of my prelim task is quit simple because I was just starting to get use to the software Photoshop
and in design. The graphics are again simple and I just used the font available from Photoshop. However my
music magazine the fonts are from dafont.com, on this site I found lots of fonts that were more appropriate
for my magazine with a wide range of chooses. You can also tell from the images they are more thought
through with different locations and angles where as my prelim is simple portrait photographs of the same
model in the same location.
