1 Kings 22 1 And they
continued three years
without war between Syria
and Israel. 2 And it came to
pass in the third year, that
Jehoshaphat the king of
Judah came down to the
king of Israel.
Just visiting.

3 And the king of Israel said unto his servants,
Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be
still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of
Syria? 4 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou
go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou
art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy
horses.
Bad idea; unequally
yoked together.

Ahab was was an idol worshipper,
and as wicked as a man can be.
Jehoshaphat served the Lord God.
2 Corinthians 6 14 Be ye not unequally yoked
together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what
communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what
concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath
he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with
idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as
God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in
them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My
people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them,
and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not
the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And
will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons
and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Often applied to marriage
Jehoshaphat agreed to be allies with Ahab,
and he should never have done it.
Believers should not tie themselves
with close ties to unbelievers.

5 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel,
Enquire, I pray thee, at the Word of the LORD to
day.
Jehoshaphat wants to hear from
The Lord before they go.
Is that important?

8. 8
6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets
together, about four hundred men, and said unto
them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or
shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord
shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
These were evidently prophets of the Lord; Baal
prophets would have been unacceptable to
Jehoshaphat. But they were apostate (men who had
abandoned their faith) prophets. They had no
concern about obtaining and relating the True Word
of the Lord.

Their desire was to give their king the kind of
advice they thought he wanted to hear. This would
please him and he would favor them.

2 Timothy 4:2-3 (NIV) Preach the Word; be
prepared in season and out of season; correct,
rebuke and encourage -- with great patience and
careful instruction. For the time will come when
men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to
suit their own desires, they will gather around them
a great number of teachers to say what their itching
ears want to hear.

We are living in such a time.
People go to church, but most don’t want to
worship according to Scripture.
They don’t want to be corrected or rebuked.
They want to be encouraged , but only to do what
they want to do anyway.
These false prophets told King Ahab
what he wanted to hear.

11. 11
7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet
of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of
him?
Jehoshaphat just didn’t believe
these men.
Their words just didn’t ring true!

12. 12
8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is
yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we
may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth
not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
Jehoshaphat knew that it was dangerous to speak
evil against a True prophet of The Lord.
Elijah wasn’t in Ahab’s palace.
Ahab hated him even worse than Micaiah.

13. 13
9 Then the king of Israel
called an officer, and said,
Hasten hither Micaiah the
son of Imlah. 10 And the
king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat the king of
Judah sat each on his throne,
having put on their robes, in
a void place in the entrance
of the gate of Samaria; and
all the prophets prophesied
before them.

14. 14
11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him
horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD,
With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou
have consumed them. 12 And all the prophets
prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead,
and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the
king's hand.
The apostate prophets kept on talking:

15. 15
13 And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah
spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of
the prophets declare good unto the king with one
mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word
of one of them, and speak that which is good.
Go along to get along; it’s the easy way.

16. 16
But it’s not the right way.
The right way often goes against the multitude of
voices.

14 And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what
the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.
This has to be true for
every God called preacher
and Bible teacher.
We must speak what God
gives us to speak.

18. 18
Will you remain true to the Word of God?
Will you live your life according to
every Word of God?
Will you do what God says
in His Word to do?
If God says don’t, will
you leave it alone?
This leads to life and life more abundantly.
