  2. 2. Greece the country• Greece is a Southeast European country, located in the Balkans. Its location plays a crucial geopolitical role in the area.• Population: 11.000.000 inhabitants.• Greece has the 11th longest coastline in the world at 13.676 km in length, featuring a vast number of islands.• Greece has been a member of what is now the European Union since 1981 and is a founding member of the United Nations.

Greece the country• Modern Greece traces its roots to the civilisation of Ancient Greece, generally considered the cradle of Western civilisation.• Birthplace of democracy, philosophy, the Olympic Games, west literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and theatre, including both tragedy and comedy.• This legacy is partly reflected in the seventeen UNESCΟ World Heritage Sites located in Greece, ranking Greece 7th in Europe and 13th in the world.

Athens the Capital• Athens is the largest city with almost half of the population of Greece.• Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world‘s oldest cities, with its recorded history of around 3.400 years.• Classical Athens was a powerful city-state: Centre for the arts, learning and philosophy; Home of Platos Academy and Aristotles Lyceum; Birthplace of Democracy and the Classical Period with a great impact on the rest of the then known European continent.• Athens, today, a cosmopolitan metropolis, modern is central to economic, financial, industrial, political and cultural life in Greece.•

Athens the Capital• The heritage of the Classical Period and the Golden Age of Pericles is still evident in the city: Parthenon and the Acropolis Hundreds of Ancient, Roman, Medieval and Byzantine monuments and works of art.• Athens was the host city of the First Modern Olympics in 1896 and of the Olympic Games 2004.• The National Archaeological Museum of Athens hosts the worlds largest collection of ancient Greek antiquities, as well as the new Acropolis Museum.

Education inGreece• The Greek Education system comprises of three grades: first, second and third.• It is a nine year compulsory system including the primary and highschools.• Education in The first grade is divided in two years kindergarten & six years primary school.• Greece The second grade is divided in three years high school & another three lyceum –general education or vocational orientation.• The third grade or higher education is provided by Universities, Polytechnic Faculties and Higher Technical Institutions.

Education inGreeceAll grades and Institutions are supervised by theMinistry of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport.They are obliged to follow the guidelines and control proceduresof the Ministry as well as the decisions concerning the curricula Education inand the recruitement of the staff. All Institutions are ministry-funded. Private institutions exist at all grades and follow the ministerialjurisdiction. Greece
  10. 10. Our School: location &ade • The school is located in the west side of Attica in the residential area of Aghiï Anargiri. The premises comprise of the main building for the theoretical lessons and a separate one for the vocational trainings. There are two playgrounds for basket ball and volley ball and a large parking area. • EPA.L. meaning Professional Lyceum is a second grade school providing both a diploma of technical specialty and a certificate equivalent to the one provided by the Generar Education Lyceum. • After graduation the students can continue with studies in a Higher Technical Institution or work in their field.

Our School: type &udents Specially designed for students who work in the morning Operating from 19:00 to 22:30, Monday to Friday 5 lesson hours instead of 7 morning lyceums 4 year studies instead of 3 morning lyceums Actual number of students: 363 mixed gender – working or unemployed Age groupe: 15 years old to... They are: school age 15-18 years of age professionals immigrants ROMA returning migrants elders 40+

Our School: teachingaff • 40 Teachers of general and technical education • Teachers are also responsible for all school administrative tasks • A Director-Manager of the School and 2 Assistant Directors • Theachers Assembly together with the Director and Assistant Directors are responsible for the decision-making and aproval of all activities and actions of the school

Our School: DNA &rget• Our school has a Multicultural and Multireligious DNA! • Greek society is formed from the beginning in the new economic and social conditions imposed by the European crisis at all levels. • Athens accepted a severe number of immigrants, from Balkan, Asian and African countries which transformed significantly its social tissue. • This new era leads everybody to study again, to acquire certificates and knowledge that will make them more competitive in the labour market. • Our target is to provide students with the necessary educational tools, empower their talents and potential, be active citizens in this everyday changing reality of our country. • Our school offers equal opportunities to its students and is open to different cultures, religions, societies, trends.
