• Modern Greece traces its roots to the civilisation of Ancient
Greece, generally considered the cradle of Western civilisation.
• Birthplace of democracy, philosophy, the Olympic Games, west
literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and
mathematical principles, and theatre, including both tragedy and
comedy.
• This legacy is partly reflected in the seventeen UNESCΟ World
Heritage Sites located in Greece, ranking Greece 7th in Europe and

• Athens is the largest city with almost half of the population of Greece.
• Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world‘s oldest
cities, with its recorded history of around 3.400 years.
• Classical Athens was a powerful city-state:
Centre for the arts, learning and philosophy;
Home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum;
Birthplace of Democracy and the Classical Period with a great impact on
the rest of the then known European continent.

• The heritage of the Classical Period and the Golden Age of Pericles
is still evident in the city:
Parthenon and the Acropolis

and of the Olympic Games 2004.
• The National Archaeological Museum of Athens hosts the world's largest

• The Greek Education system comprises of three grades:
first, second and third.
• It is a nine year compulsory system including the primary and high
schools.

The first grade is divided in two years kindergarten &
six years primary school.

The second grade is divided in three years high school &
another three lyceum –general education or vocational orientation.
• The third grade or higher education is provided by Universities,
Polytechnic Faculties and Higher Technical Institutions.

Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport.
They are obliged to follow the guidelines and control procedures
of the Ministry as well as the decisions concerning the curricula

• The school is located in the west side of Attica in the residential
area of
Aghiï Anargiri. The premises comprise of the main building for
the theoretical lessons and a separate one for the vocational
trainings. There are two playgrounds for basket ball and volley
ball and a large parking area.
• EPA.L. meaning Professional Lyceum is a second grade school
providing both a diploma of technical specialty and a certificate
equivalent to the one provided by the Generar Education Lyceum.
• After graduation the students can continue
with studies in a Higher Technical Institution or work in their
field.
