n Smallpox, measles, diphtheria, whooping cough,
chicken pox, bubonic plague, scarlet fever and
influenza were the most common microbial diseases
exchanged
n Most disease was passed through trade. It was not
done intentionally
n Native Americans had not been exposed to the
diseases so they could not fight them off
