Overview <ul><li>Ed Tech Workshops will design and implement an online instructional platform for the VPSS the Social Studies Curriculum (Tiers 1 and 2) using the Moodle online Course Management System. </li></ul><ul><li>Moodle is an open source (free) course management system designed for the development of online training programs. </li></ul><ul><li>Moodle is a dynamic online application that allows for unique content development, collaboration, ongoing assessment, and individual student accountability. </li></ul><ul><li>The Moodle course environment supports the teaching/learning process with current and relevant textual material, graphics, video, sound files, and Internet resources consistent with the course objectives and state requirements. </li></ul>Ed Tech Workshops

Ed Tech Workshops Facilities/Basic Technical Requirements Online courses do not require the use of District facilities except for training events and/or student orientation sessions. <ul><li>Participants are required to have: </li></ul><ul><li>Computer access (PC or Mac) with Internet capability </li></ul><ul><li>CD ROM drive </li></ul><ul><li>Installed copy of Microsoft Word for PC or Mac (recommended) </li></ul><ul><li>Flash drive or other removable storage for saving and transporting course resources and assignments. </li></ul><ul><li>Headset for listening to audio resources (recommended) </li></ul><ul><li>Computer connected printer (recommended). Consumable materials (paper, ink) are provided by the course participants. </li></ul><ul><li>The Ed Tech Workshops staff provides the Moodle access procedures and general technical support </li></ul><ul><li>Note: Participants are responsible for the hardware requirements unless otherwise provided by the Teacher Training Academy staff. </li></ul>

  9. 9. Subject Area – Social Studies Tier I and II 5 Day Plan The online course elements support each topic in the 5 Day Plan. The online curriculum includes objectives for each course segment, online text, graphics, videos, and Internet resources to support subject matter concepts. Methods of Instruction <ul><li>Organization , Mode of Delivery, Instructional Design </li></ul><ul><li>Both instructional continuity and corresponding resources are determined through collaboration between the VPSS staff and the course developers (Ed Tech Workshops) </li></ul><ul><li>The Moodle online course structure provides online sequential instructional elements. </li></ul><ul><li>Each instructional topic includes a wide variety of related resources that are accessible directly on the Moodle instructional platform. </li></ul><ul><li>Instruction is self-paced with a required component for collaboration, instructor feedback, periodic assessments, and open communication between students and facilitators. </li></ul>Sample Moodle Course Structure Appendix C Ed Tech Workshops

Teacher Progress, Documentation, and Access to Data <ul><li>Evidence of collaboration (Forums) are accessible on the Moodle course site. </li></ul><ul><li>Assignments are posted on the Moodle site for instructor evaluation. </li></ul><ul><li>Assessments and grades are posted on the Moodle site and can be accessible only to course facilitators. </li></ul><ul><li>Statistics, including time online, are accessible by course facilitators </li></ul>Note: Teachers have access to their posted forums , assignments, resources, and grades Ed Tech Workshops
