St. Mark Institute of Health sciences which is running a project of a Day care centre and a Nursery school
is located in kyengera Masanda zone Wakiso district Uganda. A number of children have increased from
92 children from previous year to 218 children this year. With our local contributions, we have managed
to feed children at school, bought teaching materials for children, bought books and pencils for children.
Some children cannot afford to buy food, pencils and pens. So the day care centre depends on well
wishers and friends locally to help these vulnerable children. We have other challenges like; lack of
sitting materials, such as chairs and bunches, desks, lack of enough teaching blocks (classrooms), some
children sit down on the floor while lessons are being conducted. Some others study in sessions because
the space is not enough. Currently we have two classroom blocks each accommodating 100 children and
yet next year, we hope the number of children will increase from 218 to 600 children. We are trying to
make some bricks in our new land but we don’t have building materials like; cement, roofing materials
and funds to hire a civil engineer to help us in construction. We intend to build six classroom blocks each
costing 2000 dollars.
