This document discusses patient innovation and the Patient Innovation platform. It summarizes that the platform has collected 350 patient innovations in 18 months from 30 countries. It finds that patients and caregivers often develop solutions to help cope with diseases, and that these solutions significantly improve quality of life. However, only 5% of innovations are shown to medical professionals. The document argues that the Patient Innovation platform helps address market failures by providing collaboration, support and wide diffusion that is missing from typical user innovation paradigms. It envisions the next step as a Health Innovation Accelerator to bring patient innovations and startups together.
