2. Main Image
The main image is always of the main character
to inform the audience of who the narrative is
based around and give them a subtle idea of
the narrative. The image dominates the frame
and grabs the audiences attention through
mise-en-scene elements therefore successfully
promoting the film. As you can see in the main
image for ‘Orphan’ Esther is the main
character and her costume hints at the
narrative.
3. Film Title
The film title obviously tells the audience what the film is
called and once again gives them an idea of the
narrative. The film title usually complements the main
image and tagline; they all combine to promote the
film. The title also has a conventional placement on
the frame. The are usually to the bottom right, this is
because this is the last place the western eye will
look, therefore the name will stick in the head and
encourage them to watch it.
4. Tagline
A tagline always features on a film poster. It’s main
aim is to promote the film, complement the other
components on the poster e.g image and title and
give an idea of the narrative. The tagline is usually
in a small font and placed below the title, however
in the ‘Hide and Seek’ poster they have broke
conventions by placing the tagline in the biggest
font at the top of the frame:
5. Institutional Information
Institutional information always features on a
film poster, however it is the least important
information and therefore it is placed at the
bottom of the frame in a tall sans serif font
type. Institutional information includes film
companies and actors that feature in the
film.
6. Release Date
In order for the audience to see the film the release
date must be placed on the frame in a clear,
readable font. The film title is normally towards the
bottom of the frame because as mentioned, it is
the last place the western eye will look and
therefore the release date will stay in their mind.
Sometimes, horror films are released on ‘Friday 13th’
as this is renowned as a scary day and sometimes
they are released in January as this month is known
as a depressing month.
