2. Why 14th July is celebrated as
‘Bastille Day’ ?
On that day in 1789, the Paris mob, angered by food shortages and the
soaring price of bread, stormed the city’s royal fortress called the
Bastille and set the prisoners free. The prison cells in the
dungeons of the Bastille prison were the symbol of the injustices of
royal rule. From this day Bastille day is celebrated on 14th July .
3. The motto “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” that is “ Liberty,
Equality, Fraternity” was originated from the French
Revolution and became the symbol of the French Republic.
4. How is la Fête Nationale
celebrated?
The national holiday is important to all French people,
and each town has its own special celebrations
throughout the day, ending late at night with public balls
in the street and traditional fireworks displays.

night, there are

celebrations in
the city.
6. The 14 July is a national holiday in France and
is often celebrated with firework displays. In
Paris there is a great military parade of troops,
tanks and guns past the President on the
Champs Elysées.
12. The Tour de France is an annual bicycle race held in France and
nearby countries. First staged in 1903, the race typically covers
around 3,200 kilometers (2,000 mi) and lasts three weeks.
As the best known and most prestigious of cycling's three
"Grand Tours", the Tour de France attracts riders and teams
from around the world.
13. Say Cheese !!
There are from 350 to 400 distinct types of French cheese
grouped into eight categories 'les huit familles de
fromage'. There can be many varieties within each type
of cheese, leading some to claim closer to 1,000 different
types of French cheese .!!
