very well followed sport, with many people in France cycling as a hobby. Horse racing is important, especially

7. Culture
With Paris, which is a center of fashion, cuisine, art and architecture, but life outside of the City of Lights is very
different and varies by region.
France doesn't just have different cultures; the word "culture" actually comes from France. "'Culture' derives from
the same French term, which in turn derives from the Latin colere, meaning to tend to the earth and grow,
cultivation and nurture," Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in London, told Live
Science.
Historically, French culture was influenced by Celtic and Gallo-Roman cultures as well as the Franks, a Germanic
tribe. France was initially defined as the western area of Germany known as Rhineland but it later came to refer to a
territory that was known as Gaul during the Iron Age and Roman era.
8. Languages :
French is the dominant language of the country’s 66 million residents, but there are a number of
variants based on region. French, the official language, is the first language of 88 percent of the
population, according to the BBC. French is the second most widely learned foreign language in the
world, with almost 120 million students, according to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Development.
Those living near the border of Italy may speak Italian as a second language, and Basque is spoken by
people living along the French-Spanish border.
Other dialects and languages include Catalan, Breton (the Celtic language), Occitan dialects, and
languages from the former French colonies, including Kabyle and Antillean Creole.
9. Religion :
Catholicism is the predominant religion of France. In a survey by the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP), 64
percent of the population (about 41.6 million people) identified themselves as Roman Catholic. According to a 2010
survey by the Pew Research Center, 7.5 percent (4.7 million people) are Muslim. Pew estimated that the Jewish
population was 310,000; there were 280,000 Buddhists and 30,000 Hindus. Nearly 18 million people practiced folk
religions, "other" religions or no religion
Values :
The French take immense great pride in their nation and government and are typically offended by any negative
comments about their country. Visitors, particularly Americans, often interpret their attitude toward foreigners as
rude.
10. French Art :
Art is everywhere in France — particularly in Paris and other major cities — and Gothic, Romanesque Rococo and
Neoclassic influences can be seen in many churches and other public buildings.
Holidays & Celebrations :
The French celebrate the traditional Christian holidays of Christmas and Easter. They mark May Day, also known as
Labor Day, on May 1. Victory in Europe Day on May 8 commemorates the end of hostilities in Europe in World War
II. Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14. This is the day the Bastille fortress in Paris was stormed by revolutionaries to
start the French Revolution.
11. Education
The French educational system is highly centralized and organized, with many subdivisions. It is
divided into three stages:
Primary Education : Schooling in France is mandatory as of age 6, the first year of primary
school. Many parents start sending their children earlier though, around
age 3 as nursery classes (maternelle) are usually affiliated to a
borough's primary school. Some even start earlier at age 2 inpré-
maternelle or très petite section classes, which are essentially daycare
centers.
12. Secondary Education : French secondary education is divided into two schools:
the collège for the first four years directly following primary school;
the lycée for the next three years.
The completion of secondary studies leads to the baccalauréat.
Higher Education : Higher education in France is organized in three levels or grades which
correspond to those of other European countries, facilitating
international mobility:
License and License Professionnelle(Bachelor)Master (Master)Doctorate
(Doctorate)
In addition, the License and the Master are organized in semesters: 6 for
the License and 4 for the Master.
13. The French health care system is one of universal health care largely financed by
government national health insurance. In its 2000 assessment of world health care
systems, the World Health Organization found that France provided the "close to
best overall health care" in the world. In 2011, France spent 11.6% of GDP on
health care, or US$4,086 per capita, a figure much higher than the average spent
by countries in Europe but less than in the US. Approximately 77% of health
expenditures are covered by government funded agencies.
14. Most general physicians are in private practice but draw their income from the public insurance
funds. These funds, unlike their German counterparts, have never gained self-management
responsibility. Instead, the government has taken responsibility for the financial and operational
management of health insurance (by setting premium levels related to income and determining
the prices of goods and services refunded). The French government generally refunds patients
70% of most health care costs, and 100% in case of costly or long-term ailments. Supplemental
coverage may be bought from private insurers, most of them nonprofit, mutual insurers. Until
2000, coverage was restricted to those who contributed to social security (generally, workers or
retirees), excluding some poor segments of the population; the government of Lionel Jospin put
into place universal health coverage and extended the coverage to all those legally resident in
France. Only about 3.7% of hospital treatment costs are reimbursed through private insurance,
but a much higher share of the cost of spectacles and prostheses (21.9%), drugs (18.6%) and
dental care (35.9%) (Figures from the year 2000). There are public hospitals, non-profit
independent hospitals (which are linked to the public system), as well as private for-profit
hospitals.
15. France is a leading country in the fashion design industry, along with Italy, Germany, the
United Kingdom, Japan and the USA. Fashion is an important part of the country's cultural life
and society, and the French are well known for good taste. Haute couture and the prêt-à-porter,
among other fashion styles, remain part of French traditional life. France has many famous
designers.
French design became prominent during the 15th century through today. The fashion industry
has been an important cultural export of France since the 17th century and the modern haute
couture where originated in the 1860s.
16. Paris acts as the center of the country's fashion industry. Along with New York City,
London and Milan, it is considered a lead fashion capital. Paris is home to many
premier fashion designers including Chanel, Pierre Cardin, Céline, Chloe, Dior,
Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermès, Lanvin, Rochas,Vuitton, and Yves Saint
Laurent
17. Politics
The politics of France take place with the framework of a semi-presidential system
determined by the French Constitution of the fifth Republic. The nation declares
itself to be an "indivisible, secular, democratic, and social Republic". The
constitution provides for a separation of powers and proclaims France's
"attachment to the Rights of Man and the principles of national sovereignty as
defined by the Declaration of 1789."
18. The political system of France consists of an executive branch, a legislative branch
and a judicial branch. Executive power is exercised by the President of the Republic
and the Government. The Government consists of the Prime Minister and
ministers. The Prime Minister is appointed by the President, and is responsible to
Parliament. The government, including the Prime Minister, can be revoked by the
National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament, through a "censure motion";
this ensures that the Prime Minister is always supported by a majority of the lower
house (which, on most topics, has prominence over the upper house).

from the French is however not restricted to one field only, rather it’s widely
branched to cover other aspects too. Gothic architectural style may be the

34. #We_Pledge
Ethics, morality, justice, fairness will become synonymous with peace, harmony, patriotism and humanity.
Today, We stand before you all to pledge not just terrorist attacks but for all the fellowmen alike. We pledge not
to be silent but raise our voice against all the injustices committed against mankind. We will devote our time, in
no way, let the terrorists influence our thoughts, words or deeds. We will Love & Respect all the human beings,
regardless of the thin nationality, caste, creed. That might, terrorists took away some of our fellowmen. But
those people will not have my hatred. Responding with anger & hatred is following victims to the same
ignorance that has made them what they are . They wanted me, us to be scared to view our country men with
mistrust to sacrifice our liberty for our security. Well they LOST. We the people who saw the terrible deeds,
heard them & fell victims too, are strangers than all the armies in the World. Just because we will raise our
voices for justice, doesn’t mean that we will raise them with hatred. Peace will be demanded with peace
demonstrations, and that’s all we pray and hope.
