Wetland is one of the earth's most important freshwater resources. They perform many functions in the maintenance of the ecological balance of the region. Some of the important functions include water storage, protection from storms and floods, recharge of ground water, water purification, fisheries, agriculture, wildlife resource, transport, recreation etc. This paper discussed about âBehulaâ wetland (25003'05"N- 25003'35"N and 8807'15"E- 8808'43"E) of Old Malda Municipality of Malda district (W. B.). The objectives of the presentation is changing land use pattern of the Behula wetland and its direct and indirect resources that provide the economic support of the local people. This presentation is also interested to illustrate the fact that in spite of having economic potentialities and ecological viabilities how this wetland is infested by a lot of man induced problems. Being an urban wetland it has enough capability to purify the waste water which urban area used to produce every day. It can supply a good amount of fish resources in the local market and reduce the scarcity of the same. Planned use of this resource really can cater our both marginal and other section of people.

Grade 8 Integrated Science Chapter 19 Lesson 2 on different aquatic ecosystems. This lesson gives short defining characters of freshwater, ocean, wetland, and estuary ecosystems. Freshwater ecosystems include river, streams, lakes, and ponds. The ocean section describes the open ocean, coastal ocean, and coral reefs. There is also a short section about intertidal zones and layers of the open ocean. The objective of the lesson is that students should be able to identify defining characteristics of each ecosystem and be able to compare and contrast.
