This document outlines a teacher professional leave project to trial 1:1 laptop learning and the E5 instructional model in an 8th grade classroom. The project involves researching 1:1 learning and the E5 model, designing curriculum aligned with this, implementing the curriculum with individual devices in the classroom, and evaluating the trial to produce recommendations and models for future 1:1 learning.

1. Teacher Professional Leave Project 2010 “To trial the use of the E5 instructional model in a 1:1 laptop classroom.” Emma Hardley, Neil Baillie, Chris Kargas
2. What is 1:1 Learning? 1: 1 learning is when students have access to opportunities to learn anytime and anywhere and that they have the tools that make this possible. Essentially, each student has their own electronic device.
3. What is the E5 model? The E5 is an instructional model that encourages and explains specific aspects of quality teaching. There are five domains: Engage Explore Explain Elaborate Evaluate
4. What are we doing for our project? Term 1: Reading and summarising all the up-to-date research that exists about 1:1 learning. Aligning this with the e5 model when designing curriculum for classroom implementation. Collating the research on diigo, an online information sharing facility. SHSC TPL page Speaking to schools who have set up 1:1 learning.
5. Term 2: To write the units of work that will be used to teach 8K in a 1:1 learning environment in term 3. They will particularly encompass the ideas of Inquiry learning, especially the aspects of explore and explain.
6. Term 3: 8K will be used as a trial class for 1:1 learning. They will have individual devices for their lessons (not to take home) and the teaching will try and use these to enhance the curriculum using the e5 instructional model.
7. Term 4. Evaluate the trial of 1:1. Produce an aretefact highlighting our findings that will be shared online for victorian teachers to access. Provide models of e5 use in a 1:1 classroom Make recommendations for future 1:1 learning at St Helena.
