How to Create an Abstract Painting Rachel Bray Demonstration Speech
A lot of people think abstract art is just throwing paint at a canvas, or that it has no point. This is not true!!! Abstract art is about emotion .
Five Steps to Creating an Abstract Painting
Coming up with an idea
Acquiring materials
Sketching your idea
Painting the background
Painting the foreground
Hmmm… What to Paint???
Get an Idea!
Ideas can come from anywhere !
Consider Getting an Idea from:
Personal experiences
Feelings about a certain topic
The media
Politics
Emotions you’ve been feeling lately
Spiritual/ religious concepts
Also, dreams that you’ve had can be a great source of ideas for a painting! Explore your mind and use your imagination.
Acquire Materials
Materials can be found just about anywhere. Hobby Lobby and even Wal-Mart have some good quality materials.
Just because they’re good quality, it doesn’t mean your materials have to be expensive! Look for some low-cost goodies at the above stores.
Acquire Materials
Paint
Brushes of assorted sizes
A canvas
Start with Your Blank Canvas
Sketch out Your Idea It doesn’t have to be perfect! This is just the part where you get what’s on your mind onto the canvas. This step is important because you can revise your artwork before you actually paint it.
Painting the Background
Starting your background first keeps you from accidentally painting over your foreground.
This step depends on the person! This is just the best way for me to paint.
Don’t be afraid to use color!!! Abstract art is about expressing yourself!
Outline your painting, then add in the base colors, proper fading, shading and texture.
Painting the Foreground
This step is interchangeable with the one before.
The foreground is one of the most important parts of a painting- basically the main idea.
Once again, don’t be afraid to use a lot of color!!
Outline your foreground, paint the base color, then add fading, shading and texture.
