Title: “Deforestation”

General purpose:To persuade people to refrain from felling trees and to prevent global
warming.

Specific purpose:After listening to my speech, audience members will be aware of effect
of deforestation and take steps against deforestation.

Thesis:

INTRODUCTION

  I. Deforestation is the removal of a forest or stand of trees where the land is
thereafter converted to a non-forest use.
II. Deforestation occurs for many reasons: trees or derived charcoal are used as, or
sold, for fuel or as timber, plantations of commodities, and settlements. The
removal of trees without sufficient reforestation has resulted in damage
to habitat, biodiversity loss and aridity.

BODY

1) What are the causes of deforestation?
   a) Increase in population
   b) Infrastructure development
   c) Agriculture
   d) Use as fuel
   e) Industrial purpose
2) What are the effects of deforestation?
   a) Global warming
   b) Increase in level of carbon dioxide
   c) Creating hole in ozone layer
   d) Causing the extinction of millions of species
   e) Erosion of soil increases
   f) Climate change
   g) Disruption of water cycle
3) What can we do to stop deforestation?
   a) Reforestation
b) Try to convince the local counselor to introduce the idea of implementing
legislations in parliament, which would prevent the continued practice of
      deforestation.
   c) Make notes against deforestation and stick them on the wall in the city.
   d) Farming
   e) Monitoring deforestation

CONCLUSION

Deforestation may be necessary at times in today’s fast developing economy. But we
must keep in mind to give back to Mother Nature what we take from her. We should
make it a habit to plant 3 new saplings for every tree felled. It is we who have to think
for our future, so let’s join hands and save our own common home-Earth.
