 AGRICULTURESECTOR
Typesofagriculture sector:
1) Energyresources
2) Fisheries
3) Forestry
4) Constructionsector
5) Tourismsector
6) Transportsector
WHAT IS AGRICULTURE SECTOR?
▪ Agriculture refers to growing crops for our food .
Agriculture accounts for a major part of our economy
.Agriculture may harm the environment by :
▪ over utilization of land resources ,
cutting trees for agricultural land, polluting air, water and
land by using harmful chemicals fertilizers and pesticides.
What we can do ?
a) Support local , organic and natural farming (farming
without use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides).
b) Grow our vegetables like we can have a kitchen garden
and grow small quantity of vegetable there
c) Prefer seasonal and locally produced food
1) ENERGY RESOURCES
We use energy for all our daily functions but our demand
is increasing day by day. The common energy sources ,
such as oil, coal ,gas ,etc, are harmful to health and
environment they are also limited and non – renewable
What can we do?
a) Encourage clean and renewable energy sources like
solar lights , wind energy, etc
b) avoid wasting electricity and must save save it as
much as possible.
c) avoid using vehicles that run on petrol and diesel and
use cycles or public transport that runs on CNG
2) FISHERIES
The term fisheries refers to the industry, or occupation, of catching,
processing, and selling fish, shellfish, and other aquatic products. These
products may be obtained from salt water, such as seas and oceans, or
from fresh water, such as rivers, lakes, and streams.
• over fishing has led to depletion of future fish supplies .
• some species of sharks , turtles and fish are becoming extinct . This
can disturb the ecological balance and food chains in our ecosystem.
• this will also cause greater dependence on other forms of food
causing more pressure on other forms. Fishermen may lose their
livelihood.
What can we do?
a) Discourage over fishing by making people aware of sustainable
fishing practices which control fishing and provide enough time for
fish to breed and multiply.
b) We can do fish farming to supply fish for eating purpose. If you eat
fish , buy only those which are cultivated through fish farming and
also in season (not during breeding season)
3) FORESTRY
Forests are important for rainfall and to protect our land resources .
Many tribes survive on forest product.
Deforestation or loss of forests lead to :
• climate change
• soil erosion
• loss of wildlife and damage to food- chain and ecosystem gives rise
to less rainfall and less oxygen and more pollution.
What can we do?
Sustainably managed forests can continue to support communities and
ecosystem without damaging the environment and climate. We may do
the following:
a) Reduce , reuse and recycle paper so that fewer trees are cut.
b) Avoid buying products , such as ivory which we can get from animals.
c) Buy only those products which are collected safely , such as honey
collected without breaking beehives.
4)CONSTRUCTION SECTOR
construction and building affect global resources and climate.
use of sand and stones caused destruction of river beds and quarrying in mountains .
forests are clear for mining purpose.
deforestation causes landslides , earthquakes and destruction due to flooding.
construction activities also gives rise to air pollution and results in breathing problems.
incorrectly designed buildings need more air – conditioning and electric lights , waste
more water and use more energy overall.
What can we do?
a) We should talk to people about the advantages of using local construction materials.
b) If a large scale construction project is causing pollution we should inform the local
authorities about it.
c) Plan green building because energy- efficient or green buildings save electricity and
water and use clean energy like solar and wind energy.
d) We need to use cleaner energy in our buildings and avoid wastage of energy.
5)TOURISM SECTOR
• tourism can be great for local economies ,but make
sure it does not harm the environment . while
travelling , travel in groups , limit water and energy
use and avoid wastage.
• there are hotels and travel companies which
support eco – tourism (tourism which protects the
environment)
What can we do?
a) Find out more about eco- tourism and make people
aware of how to travel without damaging the
environment.
6) TRANSPORT SECTOR
The transport sector consumes maximum petrol and
diesel and causes a lot of pollution .
The transport of a green economy aims at :
• using cleaner fuels like electricity for vehicles.
• providing public transport, promoting cycling , etc,
to discourage use of cars.
what we can do ?
a) Use public transport like buses and trains.
b) Walk or cycle when possible.
c) Use electric (battery- operated) vehicles if possible.
