Beyond the EU: DORA and NIS 2 Directive's Global Impact
Tma 02 task sheet H818
1. TMA 02
Cut-off date: 8 January 2015
Length: 2500 words
This assignment has two equally weighted parts. For Part 1 you are required to submit a
multimedia poster outlining your anticipated presentation in the H818 conference, or
outlining some part of the topic on which your presentation will be based. The second
part of the assignment is a description of the poster and a rationalisation and analysis of
your chosen topic. This will include a 500 words abstract suitable for inclusion on the
H818 conference website (in Cloudworks) as description of your forthcoming
presentation, paper or activity. This abstract can be edited after the TMA version is
submitted if you decide to make changes.
Part 1: Poster (words not counted) (33%)
The poster, or some underlying element(s) within it, should have been made open to
comment from other students within OpenStudio during Unit 6 Part 1. If for any reason
this is not possible, you should discuss other options with your tutor before the start of
Part 6.
The format of the poster submitted should be suitable for submission through the OU
eTMA system (refer to advice on formats in the H818 FAQs forum). If the format in which
the poster was created cannot be uploaded then some rendered element of it as
described in the FAQs forum will be acceptable, e.g. screenshot.
Note that the requirement to be multimedia format can be satisfied by a combination
where there are more than two media used, e.g. animation with sound, text and images,
etc.
Note on accessibility requirement: If an accessible or alternative format of the poster
is produced, this file should be included in the same TMA 02 folder. If an additional
accessible format is not supplied a single page document describing the reasons why
not should be included in the TMA 02 folder (500 words). This may either be an
explanation of accessible features incorporated into the poster or a description of the
challenges to accessibility presented by the poster, with possible remedies if know.
(Section 5.3 of the module provides advice on accessibility.)
Part 2: Abstract and extended abstract (2500 words) (67%)
The second part of the assignment is in two parts. Part A requires an abstract that
describes the project artefact on which the conference presentation will focus. The
abstract should be 500 words. You will be expected to upload this (or some revised form
of this) to Cloudworks to announce your session at the H818 conference.
Part B asks you to provide an extended abstract of 2000 words. This should describe
more fully the session and present a rationalisation for the approach you expect to
adopt. You are expected to provide an evidenced explanation for the topic and title
chosen including a critical review of three sources on which you expect to draw for
evidence. While this may cover similar ground to TMA 01 (Part 1), you are expected to
have developed your understanding of your chosen topic and extended your research
and evidence base for discussing it.
Please submit your abstracts as a single Word document, zipped with your poster in a
single folder to upload to the eTMA. Remember to give a word count at the end of your
Word document; it should not exceed 2500 words, excluding the references section.
2. Assessment criteria
Marks will be allocated on the following basis:
Part 1: (33%)
Maximum marks will be awarded for a multimedia poster with appropriate content and
execution which functions well as an effective or engaging design. This requires you to
plan the content well, ensuring your poster is informative, meets the format requirements
and has an accessibility statement or alternative. The accessibility requirement attracts
8% of the marks so TMAs that do not address this will have a ceiling of 25%.
Part 2: 2500 words (67%)
Short abstract (17%)
A readable and engaging explanation of your proposal with suitable title. (12%)
For academic style suitable for a conference presentation. (5%)
Maximum marks will be awarded for a selective and targeted short abstract that clearly
and concisely explains the purpose and treatment of the proposed presentation. To
achieve this within the word limit, students will need to be appropriately selective in the
evidence that they choose to refer to and reference.
Extended abstract (50%)
This should present a full description with rationalisation for the approach adopted in
developing this presentation. Your explanation should cover any proposals to use online
networking to develop, present or support your work.
Maximum marks will be awarded where the description shows clear evidence of
selection of a presentation approach and content which is informed by researching
options within and beyond H818. (18%)
A critical review of sources which you have drawn on or expect to draw on. Maximum
marks will be awarded only if the student has made reference to more than one type of
source and demonstrated clear understanding of any weaknesses in these sources.
(20%)
The final set of marks within TMA 02 Part 2 are awarded for evidence of proactivity in
preparing the poster. This evidence should take the form of selected comments that you
or others have made, showing how your ideas for your poster have been informed by or
responded to these. Maximum marks will be awarded to students who demonstrate
sustained engagement with others in sharing and commenting on resources
constructively and drawing on peer reflection. Such activity must include proactive as
well as reactive activity.(12%)
