Pacific Asia Travel Association
 US registered association
 1952/53 Hawaii to promote the sustainable growth,
  value & quality of tourism to, from & within “Pacific
  Area” region
 Global community of Tourism professionals incl. 755
  corporate members (Govt + Pvte sector); 7,500+
  individual members worldwide
 HQ Bangkok 28 staff; 5 regions; 38 Chapters

What objectives could a PATA Chapter in our
 destination have?
PATA Laos Chapter Keys to
success
  Board of at least 6 Lao out of 10 active members
  50% of Lao members
  Large number of members (target 100)
  From all parts of the industry (Public sector,
   Airlines, Hotels, Restaurants, Transport, Agencies,
   etc.)
  From all over Laos (Vientiane, Luang Prabang,
   Pakse)
PATA Laos Chapter planning
 Setup PATA Vientiane Chapter in January 2013
 Identify 10 key board members (power will be given
  to the board to make decisions)
 Vote the membership fee (board)
 Collect membership fees (feb)
 Introduction Meeting on the 18th of Jan
 Launch party: 19th of Jan
 Incorporate the association (6 months = July 2013)

PATA Laos Chapter Vision
 Industry gatherings in Vientiane and Luang Prabang
  every month -> networking, teamwork (HR, legal,
  sales)
 Establish a sustainable tourism development
  committee for Laos and develop strategic plan.
 Setup Education committee to develop & establish
  student related opportunity and activities.
 Set up Green committee -> promote greener practices
  in the industry (oil into fuel, wastage into compost,
  plastic bottles, share best practices and tips)
PATA Laos Chapter Vision
 Work with Tourism sector to approach airlines
  exploring international flight access in to Laos.
 Rebrand Laos as a vibrant, unique must see country
  and gateway to the Mekong.
 Review unique selling points for Laos to ensure they
  are current, user friendly & marketable.
 Establish working relationship with government via
  HQ & locally to drive long term joint planning.
 Issue monthly press releases on what is happening in
  Laos (festivals, events)
PATA Laos Chapter Vision
 Knowledge sharing among the network: organize and
  conduct tourism
  events/workshops/seminars/meetings to promote the
  dialogue/network/ knowledge sharing among
  members and
 Promote responsible tourism and sustainable
  competition in tourism businesses industry.
 Become ONE VOICE - increase membership among
  tourism related businesses in the whole industry to
  become one voice
Education Focus
 Develop student interest in PATA early, networking
  with PATA students worldwide.
 Facilitate student engagement with industry in Laos.
 Provide live projects for students to get involved in,
  within the tourism industry.
 Increase the level of interest for future prospective
  employers.
 Competition “Face of the future” (less than 25,
  entrepreneur, movie showing the challenges they will
  face in the future). Jury: PATA Executive board and a
  visibility for their business (TBC)
