2. 2. Robert Aryeetey

Robert Aryeetey is one of Ghana’s foremost modern painters.

His works are treasured world wide. When HM Queen the last

visited Ghana, a specially commissioned work by Robert was

presented to her by the Ghana government.

Robert Aryeetey was born in Accra, 1996 where he currently

lives and works as a successful contemporary artist and teacher. He

obtained a First Class BA Degree in Painting from the College of Art,

KNUST, Kumasi, completed in 1990. Subsequently, in 1993, he

received a Masters Degree in Art Education from the same institution.

Between 1991 and 1994, Robert was an Assistant Instructor in Basic

Design and Colour at the University.

Robert does not just paint he writes about art as well and a

critic on Art and Artists. He is currently writing a book on modern

modern painters in Ghana.

In a piece on Contemporary Visual Art from Ghana, George

Hughes writes “Robert Aryeetey uses subtle colors and creative

lines to evoke figures poetically. Evidently there is the rarity of

politically fuelled work being done in Ghana “.

Robert is optimistic that his paintings will continue to be more

incisive, entertaining and will often be found surprising. In his most

Recent foray his works were pyramidal works by that recall images

From the savannah highlands of northern Ghana. Interspersed with

spray-like effects, huts, baobab trees and geometric figures that

are set against cool colours; they make successful forays into the air,

environment, culture and probably the mystery of Northern Ghana and

the Sahel.
