ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation
Introduction
Based on the project brief, I need to create a new city and pretend that
I am the mayor of the ‘X’ City. The people live in the city are Malaysian.
So, I need to propose a new layout of the new city very quickly to show
about the city is sustainable and livable. I choose a city floating on water
as my new city because it is different characteristics with other city.
I collect data from ancient cities, present cities and future cities to help
me understand more about a city. The reason that I choose built a city
floating on water because floating on water will be control in the on-going
search to make my greatest cities worldwide more sustainable and
livable. Another reason is the cities floating on water can use water help
them to cope with the yet unforeseen effects of climate and urbanization.

The City
Definition
City is a part of our lives and our language. Sometimes we might
say, "I live in a city" or "I live near a city” or "I am moving to a city". We

know what we mean when we make these statements because we have
certain ideas about the city. Normally, city should have bright lights, the
tall buildings, the traffic jams.
We knew that town is different with city. A town was a living space with
a place of worship, like a Church, Mosque or Synagogue, a town square,
a central market and a town hall. So, all of this is different with city.
Cities have been called the highest forms of social organization.
Think of the complexity of road systems, transportation, building laws,
markets, food distribution, educational systems etc.
What makes a city?
A city is a relatively large and permanent settlement, particularly a large
urban settlement and also have administrative, legal, or historical status
based on local law.
I research that cities normally have complex systems for sanitation,
utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration
of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and
businesses, benefiting both parties in the process.
A city must have city hall and city council before you makes a city. This
is the rules and regulations can be made. Then you need a population to
make the city.
What makes a good city?

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation
A condition of a good city is mixed use neighborhoods, density and
walkable streets. Examples: London, New York, Hong Kong and
Tokyo are great cities for this unique reason.
A good city must include: residential, offices, retail, hospitality all
adjacent to each other and buildings are built with small or zero car
parks.
Encourage citizen who use public transport or walk to work or study.
It has the fundamentals that are needed to make a good city.
What is the future city?

Definition:
Make the city become low carbon, improve the waste management.
The economy value needs to be different with present city. Make an
example, stable employment and income, improve knowledge society
and tourism, new business and tourism. The most important element is
social value. As a future city, it needs care about local medical services,
security, culture, health care, social solidarity and capital.

Ancient City

Jerusalem, located at Quran
Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and it is considered a
holy city by Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. It is capital city of Israel
(though not all countries recognize this fact). In antiquity it was the
famed City of David from the Bible and later the place where Jesus
began his last week of life.
Based on the city, the city is full of significant historical, educational
sites and religious. Through upside image, it shows the landmarks of

Jerusalem and monuments. Israel museum is the place that collects a
lot of history from all culture.
The museum comprising nearly 50,000 square meters and a six-acre
sculpture garden, this complex features an impressive variety of
collections from prehistoric archaeology to contemporary art. The
children's wing is the most interactive section of this sprawling museum.
There are special activities for kids during Jewish holidays and school
vacations.

Varanasi, located at India
Varanasi (also known as Benares) is in the Indian state of Uttar
Pradesh. Jains and Hindus consider it to be a holy city and believe that if
you die there you will attain salvation. It is the oldest habited city in India
and one of the oldest in the world. Found along the river Ganges is gats
stops along the way in which believers can perform religious ablutions in
the river.
Secondly, Varanasi is well connected by air, rail and road. The major
point is Varanasi’s sustained actuality as a colonized city is its role as an
established transportation hub between different cities.

Main transport in Varanasi
Information & Element I choose from ancient city
and use as my new future city
Through this two of ancient city, I would like to take the information
such as their religion from first city and the transport from second city.
The reason I choose this two information and element is my future city is
floating on water that similar with Varanasi. So, I can take the idea that
use cycling as transportation. The other information is religion. Religion
is the important thing for a city. The city should be including a few type of
religion such as Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and etc.

Venice
Venice is a city floating on water that definitely same as the type of
future city I chosen. Based on research, I will carry out a few of

information through the city I concentrate. Venice is a famous place for
celebrated art and architecture. The city almost has 50,000 tourists a
day. Things that attract tourists to go Venice are beautiful cityscape,
uniqueness, and rich musical and artistic cultural heritage.
This city is often threatened by flood tides pushing in from the Adriatic
between autumn and early spring.
Flood
1064, Venice need to pay money of flood relief, Venice introduced what
could be considered. An example such as Stamp Tax [Mean= Is a Tax
that is levied on document]. However, the city still threatened by more
frequent [low level floods]. It can also call as high water. I research that
Venice’s former staircases used to unload goods are now flooded,
rendering the former ground floor uninhabitable. It happened in many old
houses at Venice. 600 years ago, Venetians protected themselves from
land-based attacks by diverting all the major rivers flowing into the
lagoon. They were preventing sediment form filling the area around the
city. Venice created an ever-deeper lagoon environment.
In conclusion, some recent studies have suggested that the city is no
longer sinking, but this is not yet certain. Venice built on an archipelago
of 117 islands formed by 177 waterways in a shallow lagoon, and related
with 409 bridges.

Show that it really can sustain Show Case
The city positively none are as spectacular as this one. The Lilypad, by
Vincent Callebaut, is a concept for a completely self-sufficient floating
city intended to provide shelter for future climate change refugees.
There are very few urban design solutions that address housing the
inevitable tide of displaced people that could arise as oceans swell under
global warming.
I research that the shape of Lilypad are design as a water lily. They use
solar, biomass, wind, tidal and etc. The city are design to hold around
50,000 people. The benefits is create a diverse environment for the
inhabitants. Lilypad is a floating acropolis for climate refugees.
I will take a part of information from this city such as how the city
actually provide a real solution to the climate change problem and the
shape of Lilypad as my residential area.

The ‘FOW City'
Population of city
What will be a GOOD future city for them?
Peaceful and livable should be provide in a good future city. Now a
days, too many of our teenagers and young adults are dying, and it

hurts so much. Teenagers destructive their lifestyle living with alcohol,
drugs and fighting with them killing each other. I suggested that there is
a need for strong, committed, uncompromising leadership.
Conclusion about the FOW city
Religion is the important things that show in a city. As a Malaysian, we
should know how to respect other culture or religion and clearly know the
rule of the religion.
NAME of my new City: FOW CITY
Solution to create the new city is the city destroyed by earthquake and
as a mayor, I need to create a city that show more livable and safety.
The city was built on air because it can be settlements that firmly use
resistance to remain in the atmosphere of a planet. It also can avoid the
change of season.
The important characteristic and elements as a city is peaceful, livable
and safe. So, constitute for a livable city are it should have mixed use
neighborhoods. Mixed use neighborhoods where every 200 acres of
development is self-contained where all activities of residential,
commercial, retail, hospitality and basic entertainment facilities are
available.
Then, it should be walkable with large footpaths along its road, totally
automobile independent, as all the major cities of the world are, London,
New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. The roads should be full
of taxis and buses with a minimum of private vehicles. In these cities
one does not need a driving license to survive. A great public place
where people can congregate also is a necessary elements and the
other one is the housing for its entire citizen.
My city is without any tax and have a lot of benefits to citizen such as
they only need to pay one time for using public transport at main transit

17
ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation
stop then can enjoy the whole day service at any stop. The other
benefits are the police placed near the residential area to keep on
protect them.
In conclusion, FOW city should be fulfill what citizen needed and let
them live in a safety environment. As a mayor, I need to look beyond
that day’s headlines, and see the cost to educate a student. Ask myself,
which is more valuable? The answer was I need to focus on affordable
housing, and rehabilitating the existing structures. In the other hand, I
also need to increase community involvement units to intervene and
concerned about what is happening. I research that crime escalates. We
need to add Law enforcement to make the city safe and peaceful and
look forward and trust God.

Conclusion
The things I learned was built city not an easy matter especially as a
mayor. You need to proposal a perfect city to your citizen and let them
feel interest to move in your city is a hard way. First, your city should be
special. You need to make your city different with other city and provided
the thing that can fulfill your citizen.
As a mayor, you need to as fast as possible to proposal your city such
a plan about your city. Next, you might not place anything in the plan
and without any reason. You should keep ask yourself why? How?
What? To support you do anything.
I learned that before does everything need to think probably and not just
depend on what you like. It has to be a planning before you start does
something. Important things are it should be work.

  • 3. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Introduction Based on the project brief, I need to create a new city and pretend that I am the mayor of the ‘X’ City. The people live in the city are Malaysian. So, I need to propose a new layout of the new city very quickly to show about the city is sustainable and livable. I choose a city floating on water as my new city because it is different characteristics with other city. I collect data from ancient cities, present cities and future cities to help me understand more about a city. The reason that I choose built a city floating on water because floating on water will be control in the on-going search to make my greatest cities worldwide more sustainable and livable. Another reason is the cities floating on water can use water help them to cope with the yet unforeseen effects of climate and urbanization. • 4. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation The City Definition City is a part of our lives and our language. Sometimes we might say, "I live in a city" or "I live near a city” or "I am moving to a city". We Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 4
  • 5. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation know what we mean when we make these statements because we have certain ideas about the city. Normally, city should have bright lights, the tall buildings, the traffic jams. We knew that town is different with city. A town was a living space with a place of worship, like a Church, Mosque or Synagogue, a town square, a central market and a town hall. So, all of this is different with city. Cities have been called the highest forms of social organization. Think of the complexity of road systems, transportation, building laws, markets, food distribution, educational systems etc. What makes a city? A city is a relatively large and permanent settlement, particularly a large urban settlement and also have administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law. I research that cities normally have complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, benefiting both parties in the process. A city must have city hall and city council before you makes a city. This is the rules and regulations can be made. Then you need a population to make the city. What makes a good city? Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 5
  • 6. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation A condition of a good city is mixed use neighborhoods, density and walkable streets. Examples: London, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo are great cities for this unique reason. A good city must include: residential, offices, retail, hospitality all adjacent to each other and buildings are built with small or zero car parks. Encourage citizen who use public transport or walk to work or study. It has the fundamentals that are needed to make a good city. What is the future city? Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 6
  • 7. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Definition: Make the city become low carbon, improve the waste management. The economy value needs to be different with present city. Make an example, stable employment and income, improve knowledge society and tourism, new business and tourism. The most important element is social value. As a future city, it needs care about local medical services, security, culture, health care, social solidarity and capital. • 8. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Investigation & Data Collection: Ancient City (1-2 cities preferably) 1st Jerusalem, located at Quran Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and it is considered a holy city by Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. It is capital city of Israel (though not all countries recognize this fact). In antiquity it was the famed City of David from the Bible and later the place where Jesus began his last week of life. Based on the city, the city is full of significant historical, educational sites and religious. Through upside image, it shows the landmarks of Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 8
  • 9. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Jerusalem and monuments. Israel museum is the place that collects a lot of history from all culture. The museum comprising nearly 50,000 square meters and a six-acre sculpture garden, this complex features an impressive variety of collections from prehistoric archaeology to contemporary art. The children's wing is the most interactive section of this sprawling museum. There are special activities for kids during Jewish holidays and school vacations. • 10. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation 2nd Varanasi, located at India Varanasi (also known as Benares) is in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Jains and Hindus consider it to be a holy city and believe that if you die there you will attain salvation. It is the oldest habited city in India and one of the oldest in the world. Found along the river Ganges is gats stops along the way in which believers can perform religious ablutions in the river. Secondly, Varanasi is well connected by air, rail and road. The major point is Varanasi’s sustained actuality as a colonized city is its role as an established transportation hub between different cities. Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 10
  • 11. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Main transport in Varanasi Information & Element I choose from ancient city and use as my new future city Through this two of ancient city, I would like to take the information such as their religion from first city and the transport from second city. The reason I choose this two information and element is my future city is floating on water that similar with Varanasi. So, I can take the idea that use cycling as transportation. The other information is religion. Religion is the important thing for a city. The city should be including a few type of religion such as Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and etc. Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 11
  • 12. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Investigation & Data Collection: Present City (1cities preferably) Venice Venice is a city floating on water that definitely same as the type of future city I chosen. Based on research, I will carry out a few of Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 12
  • 13. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation information through the city I concentrate. Venice is a famous place for celebrated art and architecture. The city almost has 50,000 tourists a day. Things that attract tourists to go Venice are beautiful cityscape, uniqueness, and rich musical and artistic cultural heritage. This city is often threatened by flood tides pushing in from the Adriatic between autumn and early spring. Flood 1064, Venice need to pay money of flood relief, Venice introduced what could be considered. An example such as Stamp Tax [Mean= Is a Tax that is levied on document]. However, the city still threatened by more frequent [low level floods]. It can also call as high water. I research that Venice’s former staircases used to unload goods are now flooded, rendering the former ground floor uninhabitable. It happened in many old houses at Venice. 600 years ago, Venetians protected themselves from land-based attacks by diverting all the major rivers flowing into the lagoon. They were preventing sediment form filling the area around the city. Venice created an ever-deeper lagoon environment. In conclusion, some recent studies have suggested that the city is no longer sinking, but this is not yet certain. Venice built on an archipelago of 117 islands formed by 177 waterways in a shallow lagoon, and related with 409 bridges. • 14. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation I will take the part information of the ways they use for sustain their city and how does it work and become sustainable. Investigation & Data Collection: Future City (1 cities preferably) Lilypad, Floating City for Climate Change Refugees by Vincent Callebaut [This just a planning] Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 14
  • 15. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Show that it really can sustain Show Case The city positively none are as spectacular as this one. The Lilypad, by Vincent Callebaut, is a concept for a completely self-sufficient floating city intended to provide shelter for future climate change refugees. There are very few urban design solutions that address housing the inevitable tide of displaced people that could arise as oceans swell under global warming. I research that the shape of Lilypad are design as a water lily. They use solar, biomass, wind, tidal and etc. The city are design to hold around 50,000 people. The benefits is create a diverse environment for the inhabitants. Lilypad is a floating acropolis for climate refugees. I will take a part of information from this city such as how the city actually provide a real solution to the climate change problem and the shape of Lilypad as my residential area. • 16. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation The ‘FOW City' Population of city What will be a GOOD future city for them? Peaceful and livable should be provide in a good future city. Now a days, too many of our teenagers and young adults are dying, and it Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 16
  • 17. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation hurts so much. Teenagers destructive their lifestyle living with alcohol, drugs and fighting with them killing each other. I suggested that there is a need for strong, committed, uncompromising leadership. Conclusion about the FOW city Religion is the important things that show in a city. As a Malaysian, we should know how to respect other culture or religion and clearly know the rule of the religion. NAME of my new City: FOW CITY Solution to create the new city is the city destroyed by earthquake and as a mayor, I need to create a city that show more livable and safety. The city was built on air because it can be settlements that firmly use resistance to remain in the atmosphere of a planet. It also can avoid the change of season. The important characteristic and elements as a city is peaceful, livable and safe. So, constitute for a livable city are it should have mixed use neighborhoods. Mixed use neighborhoods where every 200 acres of development is self-contained where all activities of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and basic entertainment facilities are available. Then, it should be walkable with large footpaths along its road, totally automobile independent, as all the major cities of the world are, London, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. The roads should be full of taxis and buses with a minimum of private vehicles. In these cities one does not need a driving license to survive. A great public place where people can congregate also is a necessary elements and the other one is the housing for its entire citizen. My city is without any tax and have a lot of benefits to citizen such as they only need to pay one time for using public transport at main transit Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 17
  • 18. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation stop then can enjoy the whole day service at any stop. The other benefits are the police placed near the residential area to keep on protect them. In conclusion, FOW city should be fulfill what citizen needed and let them live in a safety environment. As a mayor, I need to look beyond that day’s headlines, and see the cost to educate a student. Ask myself, which is more valuable? The answer was I need to focus on affordable housing, and rehabilitating the existing structures. In the other hand, I also need to increase community involvement units to intervene and concerned about what is happening. I research that crime escalates. We need to add Law enforcement to make the city safe and peaceful and look forward and trust God. • 36. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation Conclusion The things I learned was built city not an easy matter especially as a mayor. You need to proposal a perfect city to your citizen and let them feel interest to move in your city is a hard way. First, your city should be special. You need to make your city different with other city and provided the thing that can fulfill your citizen. As a mayor, you need to as fast as possible to proposal your city such a plan about your city. Next, you might not place anything in the plan and without any reason. You should keep ask yourself why? How? What? To support you do anything. I learned that before does everything need to think probably and not just depend on what you like. It has to be a planning before you start does something. Important things are it should be work. Your Name | Your Student ID | Group d/w/n | FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University 36
