Professional Skills About Whitney
An educator first, technologist second
I’ve spent the last 15 years in the education sector,
the last 10 years have been specifically focused on
distance education. During the course of my PhD
program at UNT, I have researched the use of social
media and video recording technologies to enhance
online teaching and learning. I have developed a
number of Massive Open Online courses, employed
VoiceThread and asynchronous video to increase
the sense of presence and community online, and
created an informal learning community using
WordPress and Twitter. My research efforts have
primarily focused on the development of informal
learning communities using web-based
communication tools, humanization of online
instruction, and the motivation and self-regulation
of online learners.
