2. SECULAR STRUCTURE
INTRODUCTION –
 A secular building is a building for
secular purposes .
 The Gothic style influenced
defensive structures.
 The term is used in fine arts and
cultural science , for example in
the history of architecture.

3. To define the secular buildings its usages form each other
and to standardize.
 The antonym of secular buildings is the sacred
architecture which clerical or religious purpose is
reserved.
 Example of secular buildings are museums , townhalls,
university buildings and railway stations .

 The GPO of the city of Calcutta
India.
 The post office handles most of
the city inbound and outbound
mail and parcels.
 The imposing structure of the
GPO is one of the LANDMARKS
in the city.

7. HISTORY
 The site where the GPO is
located was actully the site
of the first fort william.
 An alley beside the guard-
house, that housed the
infamous 1756 BLACK
HOLE OF CALCUTTA
(1756 AD ) .
