• Aravind Eye Hospitals are the series of eye treatment
hospitals in India. It was found in 1976 by Dr.
Govindappa Venkataswami at Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
The hospitals were named after Sri Aurobindo, a
freedom fighter and spiritual leader from India. By
studying the above case study, we came to know
about the ethical practices carried out by the hospital
to give vision to everyone.

• Aravind eye hospitals are acting as an ethical symbol for
the society by giving the sight to millions of blind people
in India. The problem of cataract related blindness was
major in India with at least 4 million cases every year .
• A small non profit hospital with twenty beds was started
but due to the ethical practices followed by this hospital it
became the number one hospital to perform the highest
number of eye surgeries in the world.

• The procedures of this hospital are so efficient that it earns a
gross profit of 40 percent, despite the fact that 70 percent of
the patients pay nothing or close to nothing.
• This hospital provide same type of quality treatment to the
patients who pay full amount and who pay nothing. Dr. V had
divided the operations of the Aravind Eye Hospitals into two
facilities, which are located near each other- one for patients
who can pay for the amenities and the other for the patients
who cannot and have to be treated free of cost. Although the
amenities are different in these two places, but both share the
same staff of doctors and nurses, ensuring high quality
medical care for all.
