2. Can
Can is an auxiliary verb, a modal auxiliary
verb. We use can to:
 talk about possibility and ability(សមត្ថភាព និងលទ្ទភាព)
 make requests(សសនើសុំ)
 ask for or give permission

3. Can: Ability
 General:
• She can speak good English.
• Kiwis are birds but they cannot fly.
 Now:
• Can you hear me?
• I can’t see anything. It’s dark.

4. Can: Possibility
 This refers to a theoretical possibility.
• Canada can be very cold in the winter.
• Sorry, I'm busy today. But I can help you
tomorrow.
• It can get cold there at night so take a jacket.
• I know you can win the competition.

5. Can: Permission or Request
 Can is used to ask for / request permission or to give permission.
Note: Can't is used to refuse permission.
• You can use my umbrella, I don't need it right now.
• Can I sit in that chair please?
• Can I ask you a question?
• You can't go to the park. It will still be wet from the rain last
night.
• We can't leave the room until the assignment is completed.

6. Can: Polite offer
 Can is used when you offer to help someone or to
do something for them.
• You don't need to walk home. I can take you there
if you like.
• Can I carry your bags for you?
• Can I help you?

8. Can you answer the phone, please?
She can't buy a new car, because she does not
have money.
Could I use your phone?
Can you open the door, please?
He can play piano and guitar.
