THINK WAY DIFFERENT II. …..THERMODYNAMICS (Relativity) R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL Rossini, F. Chemical Thermodynamics. Wiley, 1950 (pp, 33-42) Points out that IF mass exothermic losses (or endothermic gains) could be measured, calorimetry not needed. Thermodynamics & Relativity should relate  E =Q - W to  m o =  E/ c 2  (h/c 2 )  f i.e., photons are the “gains” and “losses”. Note: f = 10 13 Hz is ~e.m. middle average.

THINK WAY DIFFERENT II. …..THERMODYNAMICS R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL From my 1959 thesis where the problem was to analyze existing data under Dr. Tykodi’s ideas. Above: System-surroundings Right: Alty’s data, (JCP, 1959)

Thesis analysis of chemical reactions using Tykodi’s idea of “resistance” and my idea of generality (seemed important but now a vague memory). THINK WAY DIFFERENT II. …..THERMODYNAMICS R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL
THINK WAY DIFFERENT II. …..THERMODYNAMICS R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL My Thesis work led to an AFOSR project at IITRI to study vaporization phenomena as applied to liquid propellants (Tykodi’s book on H 2 0 below).
THINK WAY DIFFERENT II. …..THERMODYNAMICS R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL Tykodi’s “Thermal Converters” as heat-to-work type “engines” (pp.122-125, loc.cit.) considers entropy production as it relates to work, -W, and efficiency,  , via an “appropriate” heat current rate, ñ, (electric, mass, or chemical reaction measure). Invoking “stability” (Eq. 3:30) and the “haste makes waste” principle (Eq. 3:29), maximum work “B” and maximum efficiency “A” do not occur at the same “current” ñ.

THINK WAY DIFFERENT IV PANPSYCHISM (hidden forces) R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL Idea#1: The “ants” and “ elephants ” refer to ~  e  p + n Photon electron “handshakes” (A source of panpsychism at “c” velocity?) Defining it’s “force” as c 2 leads to an energy, “E” = c 2 M*, where M* are n ~. Looking at light,  = h/p  c t, with Wien’s Law,   .003/T produces: T t  .003/c = ~ 10 -11 deg K-sec ( 2h/k b ) Substituting “average” f  10 13 as 1/t implies T  100 o K reference for all e.m.
R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL Idea #2: Consider: Heisenberg principle; h  E n t n (usual mechanistic) But “action” can have two “reactions” (  motion and  growth) So, with motion and growth “energies” assumed equal, might: Planck’s “h” = ? E t (1 - t g / t m ) = E t (1 - f m /f g ) (where t g or f m are usually considered to be zero. Such forms, even Einstein’s (1 - v 2 /c 2 ), are suspiciously like those of the Carnot cycle for “efficiency”. THINK WAY DIFFERENT IV ….PANPSYCHISM (heisenberg)

Think way different V SUMMARY ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL
Think way different V CONCLUSIONS R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL From “ T h ermodynamics, Swimming, and Panphychism ” , some conclusions presently are: FEELING is intuitive; an intrinsic property of all things ordained by latent memory ACTION is real; a motion and/or growth of anything in space for a duration of time. THOUGHT is info; supplied at a c 2 rate to employ within oneself or to transfer to another. Newton’s mechanistic force is F = M a, or E/d. Einstein’s E/m = c 2 implies a force on mass as c 2 , a phychistic force? Equating forces imply M = c 2 / a = d? ( M and d are useful as scaling factors for the forces ) Planck’s “a c tion ” constant implies two rates as frequencies of mass and area change A(Mf m ) or M (Af A ). Charge is the same for masses that differ by 1836. While  G creates the opposite signs, photon “forces” at c 2 cause charge magnitude to be equal for the mass difference. Carnot cycle work efficiency as (1-W/Q) suggest kinetic theory of “bouncing” molecules of perfectly elastic collisions in a gas at 100% efficiency is impossible Obviously, the logic of these statements need more experimental verification for application, as does Tykodi’s “ thermo-static, thermo-staedic, and thermo-dynamic states” . This highlights 43 years of musings in a dozen personal research and swimming logs. I would be pleased if someone experimentally verifies or theoretically disproves.

Invoking “stability” (Eq. 3:30) and the “haste makes waste” principle (Eq. 3:29), maximum work “B” and maximum efficiency “A” do not occur at the same “current” ñ.

  • 35. THINK WAY DIFFERENT IV PANPSYCHISM (hidden forces) R/E Unlimited., Chicago, IL Idea#1: The “ants” and “ elephants ” refer to ~  e  p + n Photon electron “handshakes” (A source of panpsychism at “c” velocity?) Defining it’s “force” as c 2 leads to an energy, “E” = c 2 M*, where M* are n ~. Looking at light,  = h/p  c t, with Wien’s Law,   .003/T produces: T t  .003/c = ~ 10 -11 deg K-sec ( 2h/k b ) Substituting “average” f  10 13 as 1/t implies T  100 o K reference for all e.m.

Editor's Notes

  1. THE SUBMTTED ABSTRACT EXPANDED AS I REVIEWED WRITINGS FROM MY STORY OF THERMODYNAMICS, SWIMMING, AND PANPSYCHISM. “RUN-TIME” REFERS TO THE INCREASE OF PAST TIME RELATIVE TO ITS DECREASED FUTURE FOR ALL THAT LIVE. FROM A RESERVOIR OF IDEAS, “ACTION” AS CENTRAL BETWEEN FEELINGS AND THOUGHT IS MOST SIGNIFICANT. . .
  2. WORDS MEAN DIFFERENT THINGS TO DIFFERENT FOLKS, HENCE SOME DEFINITIONS AS IMPLIED HERE-IN. TO FOCUS ON ONE, “PANPSYCHISM’: AN ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY THAT ALL THINGS ARE AWARE AND “FEEL”,,SCIENCE COUNTS ON THE ACTION OF WATER’S FEEL IS TO BOIL AT 212 O F WITH APPLIED HEAT. DEFINED HERE AS THE “FORCE” OF C 2 INFO CARRIED BY PHOTON MASSES
  3. LENGTH, MASS, AND TIME (MKS) ARE REAL UNITS OF SCIENCE,, OBSERVED DIRECTLY. RADIATION CANNOT BE SEEN, NOR CHARGE HELD BOTH REQUIRE AN INTERACTION WITH THE SURFACE OF MASS…
  4. MASS CAN GENERALLY BE CONSIDERED SPHERICAL, HAVING A RADIUS THAT FIXES AN ACTIVITY WITH SURROUNDINGS AS A SURFACE TO VOLUME RATIO
  5. ENERGY IN ONE DIRECTION IS WORK, SPREAD IN TWO WOULD MAKE TRIANGULAR, AND IN 3 DIRECTIONS, I.E. A BALLOON BEING EXPANDED REQUIRES “PRESSURE”. . .
  6. SURFACE TO VOLUME RATIO REPRESENTS ‘ACTIVITY’, WHICH ARE EQUAL FOR A GIVEN REGULAR TETRAHEDRON AND ITS INSCRIBJED SPHERE. MADE DIMENSIONLESS, TETRAHEDRON (AS MAXIMUM, TO SPHERE (AS MINIMUM) RATIO IS 3.307 FOR ANY SIZE!
  7. MASS RATIO OF PROTON TO ELECTRON IS 1836 WITH EQUAL AND OPPOSITE CHARGE. PLUS/MINUS SQUARE ROOT OF GRAVITY CONSTANT ACCOUNTS FOR THE CHARGE. ASSOCIATED PHOTON ACTIVITY COMPENSATE MASS DIFFERENCE. A LARGE “RESISTANCE” EXISTS BETWEEN.
  8. TOP-BOTTOM VS BOTTOM-UP VIEWS AS 1-D IMPLY ONE THING CONSIDERED. OUTSIDE=IN VS INSIDE OUT (2-D) IMPLY TWO THINGS TO CONSIDER..
  9. I CAN’T SEE RADIATION NOR HOLD A COULOMB. INNER “ACTIVITY” OF SOMETHING IS DEPENDENT ON ITS SURFACE TO VOLUME AND HIDDEN. THERMODYNAMICS AND RELATIVITY IDENTIFY COMPLEXITY BY ENERGY AND MASS CHANGES.
  10. QUOTES OF MOTIVATION FOR ME. PARTICULARLY PENROSE’S “ SOMETHING WE HAVE ALL MISSED” AS A FINAL STATEMENT AFTER 1,045 PAGES OF MATHEMATICAL COMPLEXITY.. A RE-RESEARCH OF THE PROBLEM SEEMED APROPO..
  11. MY HISTORY UNCOVERED AN INFLUENCE DR. RALPH J. TYKODI HAD MADE ….AFTER 43 YEARS. FIV E OF MANY LONG SWIMS MADE ME ACUTELY AWARE OF A WORKING ‘STEADY’ SYSTEM WITHIN ITS SURROUNDINGS WITH LOTS OF TIME TO THINK AND FEEL MY ENVIRONMENT. NOTE THE INCREASED SPEED WITH SEA CREATURES AROUND.
  12. SEVERAL READS OF THIS WORK CONVINCED ME IT WAS THE BEST COVERAGE OF THE SUBJECT I HAVE EVER SEEN. .
  13. ALL POTENTIALS FOR ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS RUN DOWNHILL AND LOST IN IRREVERSIBLE REACTIONS. CARNOT’S CONCEPT OF REVERSIBLE REGENERATION OF POTENTIAL DEFINES A WORK EFFICIENCY AS (1-LOW T/HIGH T) FOR THE MOTIVE POWER OF HEAT FOR ANY MACHINE …. CAUSING A BIRTH OF ENTROPY PRODUCTION IN LATER YEARS. REMINDS ONE OF A SIMILAR FORM IN EINSTEIN’S ( 1 - V 2 /C 2 )
  14. SOME CALCULATIONS MADE TO FAMILIARIZE EFFECTS WITH DIFFERENT ASSUMPTIONS OF THE TC/TH RATIO, ASSAYING CONDITIONS OF MAXIMUM WORK EFFICIENCIES.
  15. SO, ANY EXOTHERMIC REACTION INVOLVES A MASS LOSS (AND GAIN FOR AN ENDOTHERMIC REACTION?) , PRACTICALLY NEGLIGIBLE UNLESS……ONE CONSIDERS THE SO-CALLED MASS-LESS PHOTONS OF LIGHT. THE 13TH POWER OF FREQUENCY HAS USE AS AN AVERAGE OF ALL RADIATION!!
  16. AS A RESEARCHER AT IITRI, LAB WORK WAS PLENTIFUL, SO SEEKING A MASTERS DEGREE FOR WORK ADVANCEMENT, I FOUND DR. TYKODI’S RESEARCH AS A “PAPER STUDY” APPROPRIATE. AS A CHEMICAL ENGINEER AND A NOVICE IN HIS FIELD, HE WAS VERY PATIENT WITH EXPLANATIONS. THEN, IT WAS MOSTLY GREEK AND NEEDED FOR M.S., , BUT LOOKING BACK NOW, I SEE POTENTIAL MERIT. IN HIS APPROACH.
  17. MY WORK BEGAN WITH A STUDY OF STEADY FORCED VAPORIZATION USING PUBLISHED DATA ON WATER AND CARBON TETRACHLORIDE ANALYZED BY TYKODI’S CONCEPTS. CLEARLY, ALTY’S DATA SHOW THAT FOR APPRECIABLE DEPARTURES FROM EQULIBRIUMS, THERE IS A CONSTANT “RESISTANCE’ FACTOR.NOTE EXTENDED SLOPE OF LINES. STUDY CONTINUED WITH AVAILABLE DATA FOR OTHER PROCESSES.
  18. REPORTED DATA OFA BI-THERMAL EFFECT WAS ANALYZED FOR HELIUM AND ARGON. MIGRATION OCCURS TO A MAXIMUM PRESSURE DIFFERENCE WHICH HELD STEADY AT LOW PRESSURES. . MORE DATA WAS REQUIRED TO APPLY TYKODI’S CONCEPTS ANY FURTHER..
  19. 1ST AND 2ND ORDER CHEMICAL REACTIONS WERE STUDIED BY KINETIC RATE CONSTANTS DEFINING DEPARTURES FROM EQUILIBRIUM BY A NORMALIZATION PROCEDURE. THE RESISTANCE FOR 1ST ORDER (SLOPE OF LINES ON LEFT) BELOW AND ABOVE K=1 VARY FROM LOW TO HIGH, RESPECTVELY FOR REASONABLE DEPARTURES FROM EQUILIBRIUM. ON THE RIGHT SHOWS THIS DEPENDENCE WITH “N” BUNCHING AT K EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN ONE.
  20. SINCE FUELS VAPORIZE IN BURNING, I PROPOSED A PROJECT TO AFOSR ON FORCED VAPORIZATION TO STUDY VARIABLES. . EQUIPMENT DESIGN (SHOWN ON RIGHT) WAS DISTRESSFUL TO GLASSBLOWER, BUT…WORKED SUCCESSFULLY TO MEASURE SIMULTANEOUS LEVEL CHANGES OF 5 TUBES AT A STEADY COMMON PRESSURE IN A MONOTHERMAL BATH. ON RIGHT, MEASURED FLOW RATES WERE ORMALIZED IN PLOTS AS MEASURED-TO-MEAN, SHOWING ALL DATA FIT ON ONE LINE AND MEASURED-TO-ALL, SHOWING INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR.. CONFIRMATION OF DR. TYKODI’S ‘RESISTANCE’ HOLDING QUITE FAR FROM EQUILIBRIUM WAS SUCCESSFUL, AS REPORTED IN HIS BOOK. .
  21. CLEARLY, MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY WILL BE NEAR EQUILIBRIUM, ALTHOUGH LITTLE WORK CAN BE DONE (NEAR EQUILIBRIUM) MAXIMUM WORK IS ACHIEVED FARTHER FROM EQUILIBRIUM WHICH IS NOT AT THE SAME MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY, I.E., n AND -W BOTH DIMINISH AND BECOME EQUAL AT n MAXIMUM, A THERMAL CONVERTER WOULD THEN NEED AN EXTERNAL WORK SOURCE .
  22. ENOUGH “THERMO”; ON TO SOME PERSONAL SWIMMING NOTES OVER THE PERIOD SHOWN, AVERAGE STEADY SPEED INCREASED, AND BY 1967, NEW” FEELINGS” OF SEA CREATURES AIDED MORE IMPROVEMENT. PRESENTLY, SHARP DECLINES IN BOTH SPEED AND DISTANCE.HAVE ARRIVED IN ~2007, WHERE ONE MILE AND ONE HOUR ARE MORE COMMON.
  23. AS A CARNOT ENGINE, A SWIMMER IN HEAT SINKS GREATER THAN BODY TEMPERATURE, A WORK EFFICIENCY WOULD BE NEGATIVE,I.E., NO PLACE TO DUMP HEAT)……UNLESS…..
  24. MUSCLES ARE SAID TO BE COMPRIZED OF ~20 CELLS OF MANY MOLECULES. … A MOLE OF THESE ‘ANTS’ IN A HUMAN BODY CAN DO THE WORK CREDITED TO THE BODY( “ELEPHANT”) AT A RESONANT FREQUEMCY.
  25. MOTIVE POWER OF HEAT CAN THEN BE EMPLOYED FORTHWITH. AN EXPLANATION OF FORTHWITH IS “BEFORE” ANYTHING HAS DETECTABLY HAPPENS!. . .
  26. HARD TO BELIEVE SUCH A HIGH TEMPERATURE, BUT WORK CAN BE USED LOCALLY FORTHWITH FROM HEAT OF COMBUSTION. AND SIMULTANEOUS MASS LOSS IS ALSO EXTREMELY LOW. I
  27. THERE ARE SEVERAL RESEARCHERS PURSUING THE IDEAS OF LOCAL HOT SPOTS AND MASS LOSS FROM EXOTHERMIC REACTIONS.
  28. A WEIGHTLIFTER SWAM ALONGSIDE ME IN A POOL NEEDED TEN STROKES TO MY ONE. EXHAUSTED AND WINDED AFTER ONE LENGTH, HE ASKED WHAT HE DID WRONG. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONVINCE HIM THAT HE WAS TOO POWERFUL AND NOT FEELING THE SLIGHT PRESSURE NEEDED TO MOVE IN WATER. HE NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY HIS POWER COULD NOT EQUAL ME WITH A LESSER POWER..
  29. GATHERING TOGETHER ALL SOURCES OF INFO COHERENTLY TAKES TOO MUCH TIME. I STOPPED WITH THIS. I FOUND THE 20 TIMES BRAIN USE WHEN THINKING VERY INTERESTING. HMMM,, A SWIMMER SHOULD NOT THINK? ,A WASTED ENERGY HERE,.
  30. THE CENTRAL COLUMN IS ‘STEADY’, LEFT IS GOING IN AND RIGHT IS COMING OUT. MOMENTUM EQUALITY RESOLVES MECHANICAL EFFICIENCY, VARIED ASSUMPTIONS REQUIRED, BUT ~ 70% APPEARS NORMAL. ABOUT 500% OVER BASIL IS NECESSARY TO SWIM. I MEASURED A 17 POUND WEIGHT LOSS ON ONE AND ESTIMATED A RANGE OF 0.4 (EARLY) AND 0.2 (SUSTAINED LATER) LBS/ HR LOSSES. 3-5 % WORK EFFICIENCY IS UNREALISTIC. MAYBE NOT A “CARNOT ENGINE”, BUT A LOCAL 1000 O K RESULT OF ~70% SEEMS MOST REASONABLE. LINE.
  31. HOW DID ALL THIS COME ABOUT? BIG BANG IS UNSATISFYING. CAN THERE BE, AS PENROSE SUGGESTS, “ SOMETHING WE HAVE MISSED”? GROWTH, AS A FORCE, IS GENERALLY OVERLOOOKED IN PHYSICS. CAN C 2 BE CONSIDERED A FORCE, “INFORMATION TRANSFER”? CHARGE AND LIGHT CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED DIRECTLY WITHOUT ASSOCIATION WITH MASS AND/OR TIME. REFLECTED LIGHT AND CHARGED PARTICLES
  32. FIBONACCI EQUATION, STARTING FROM ZERO PROCEEDS IN TWO DIRECTIONS, ONE THE USUAL ADDITION FORWARD POSITIVE, THE OTHER A SUBTRACTION BACKWARD, ALTERNATELY POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE. APPLYING THE SIMPLE RULES AT ZERO, FULLER’S “UNITY IS PLURAL” IS CONFIRMED HERE…. AT ZERO!
  33. SUMMING UP:. SURFACE TO CONTENT RATIO IS A GEOMETRIC “ACTIVITY” FOR THAT WITHIN TO THAT WITHOUT (SYSTEM-SURROUNDING INFLUENCE). SHOWN AS DIMENSIONLESS, I.E. ANY SIZE CIRCLES (2-D), AND 3-D SPHERES AND REGULAR TETRAHEDRON . FOR THE RATIO OF TETRAHERON TO SPHERE, IT IS 3.307, A FACTOR FOR ENERGY TO MASS INTERACTION?. A REAL INSCRIBED SPHERE WITHIN A REGULAR TETRAHEDRON HAVE EQUAL SURFACE TO VOLUME RATIOS.
  34. THE DETERMINISM OF THERMODYNAMICS AND PROBABILITY OF QUANTUM THEORY MAY RESOLVE BY INCORPORATING EINSTEIN’S, E = M C^2, DIFFERENTLY , PLACING THERMOTICS AND RELATIVITY ON EQUAL TERMS FOR ENERGY AND MASS CHANGES
  35. A REALITY OF PHOTONS SUGGEST HIDDEN FORCES ON MATTER. THE “T x t “ PRODUCT IMPLIES AT GIVEN “T”, t APPROACHING ZERO IS “ADIABATIC”, AND t APPROACHING INFINITY IS “REVERSIBLE”, IMPLY CONDITIONS OF NEGLIGIBLE ENTROPY PRODUCTION. REPLACING t WITH 1/f, WHERE f IS AN AVERAGE OF ALL ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION, ~10 13 IMPLIES A TEMPERATURE OF ~100 O K. HMMM.
  36. THE PLANCK CONSTANT IS CLEARLY A LOWEST LIMITING ACTION FOR THE HEISENBERG PRINCIPLE, BUT HP DOES NOT DEFINE POSSBILITY OF TWO REACTIONS.
  37. I BELIEVE LENGTH, MASS, AND TIME ARE THE REAL UNITS OF SCIENCE AND OTHERS OBFUSCATE BECAUSE THEY ARE CONCEPTS RATHER THAN PERCEPTS. I CAN ‘SENSE’: HEAT, NOT TEMPERATURE, CHARGE, NOT COULOMBS, ETC. PLANCK CONSTANT DIVIDED BY PARTICLE MASSES IMPLIES A RATE OF SURFACE ACTIVITY.
  38. HERE, GRAVITY AND RADIATION FORCES MAY CAUSE CHARGE STABILITY WHERE THE STEFAN-BOLTZMANN LAW BALANCES G IN THE MICROSCOPIC WORLD.
  39. SAME AS EARLIER. WITH AN ADDED FINAL THOUGHT IN REVIEWING. ANY “ACTION” IS PROMPTED BY INTUITION GAINED FROM PAST FEELINGS AND/OR . A CONSIDERED LOGIC OF THOUGHT.
  40. WORDS HAVE DIFFERENT MEANINGS TO DIFFERENT FOLKS. I HOPE THERE IS REASONABLE CLARITY..IF NOT, SO MOTE IT BE.
  41. PART OF MY REFERENCE COLLECTION WHICH NUMBER OVER AN ADDITIONAL HUNDRED FROM GOOGLE SEARCHES.
  42. THIS IS ONE THAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. ATTEMPTS ARE ONGOING TO ASCERTAIN A USEFUL APPLICATION. .
  43. A ND FOR THOSE WHO MUST WONDER WHO IN HELL I AM, MY SCIENTIFIC AND SWIMMING CREDENTIALS. AS BACKGROUND.
