This document discusses research on physical activity and sedentary behavior in children and adolescents. It summarizes several studies that find associations between increased physical activity and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and obesity. Additionally, it notes that sedentary behaviors like screen time should be limited to no more than 2 hours per day for health, according to recent guidelines. The document also examines interventions that aim to reduce sedentary behavior and limit associated increases in BMI.

Sedentary behaviour guidelines
(Tremblay MS et al. Appl Physiol Nutr Metab 2011; 36: 59-64)
Children (aged 5–11 years) and youth (aged 12–17 years) should
minimize the time being sedentary:
●Limiting recreational screen time to no more than 2 h per day
●Limiting sedentary (motorized) transport, extended sitting time, and
time spent indoors throughout the day
