How disruptive can
one company be?
With the right Chief Product Developer/DBA,
more than one can imagine. Is it you?
Have you really tested your skills or
imagination?
You’ve developed some incredible products over the course of your career and maybe even
pushed the edge of the envelope of your skill-set from time to time. You may have even had a
huge impact on the web development industry and feel you’ve made a difference. You judged
your happiness in your position by how well your product has been received by your peers or
maybe by how many people use it on a daily basis, but deep inside you know you haven’t even
come close to building the product that truly fulfills that inner voice. That voice that screams at
you from time to time that nobody knows about. You haven’t really accomplished anything yet
because you haven’t built ‘THE’ product. The one that made Nikola Tesla a person our kids
study in school a century after the fact. You have the skills, you have the passion when the
purpose is clearly defined, and most of all when everything comes together inside your heart.
BOOM! That fire is ignited and nothing can stop you. Well, it’s time to stay up all night with a
purposeful passion again. Haven’t showered in a few days, unshaven and drinking coffee at
11:00 PM because, who can sleep when something so important has to be done? Do you
remember those times? We are living it right now and we are looking for some key people to join
us. Yes, your resume is important but if you don’t have the ‘IT’ factor it won’t matter if you built
the iPhone, invented Windows or found the Titanic.
We are a small group of seasoned fortune 500 tech and start-up executives whom have more than
seen our share of success but never at the potential of what we are building today. Sure, we can’t
sleep because we think it’s going to be worth billions but that’s beside the point. It’s time to not
just shake things up. We are blowing up the ship. That’s right, we are tearing things down to the
ground so it can be rebuilt and it looks nothing like it did before. Interested? Good. Drop your
ego at the door, leave your old products behind because they won’t be remembered a century
from now. If you have made it this far you are either intrigued, think you have heard this all
before or genuinely understand the undertones of this message. It’s the latter we are looking for
and if you feel like this is speaking to you than scroll to the next page.
Skillset requirements
 You know your way around a database and truly enjoy working on them. Not just any
database, but all of them. This product will test every bit of your skills and bring out
skills you never knew you had.
 You have a deep understanding of all highly utilized web based technologies, related
API’s and SDK’s associated with them. You know even more about the technologies that
might not be popular but powerful tools that haven’t found a home just yet. The true
geek in you will know what tools to look at.
 Your understanding of front end tools is extensive but back end tools is far more
profound. You know how things tick.
 If the technology exists, you know about it, if it doesn’t already exist, you can tell the
developers how to build it and if needed, you can and will build it yourself.
 You love data and can’t get enough of it and you also have the below factors in your
background.
 A PhD, a Master's Degree with at least five years of data mining experience would be
great. But, the degree isn’t necessary if you have proven you have the chops for the scale
needed.
 A degree in one of the following fields: computer science, computational biology,
statistics, or another computational area with an emphasis on the use of machine
learning/data mining to build predictive models. Freakishly smart people that have these
skills and didn’t get a degree also highly considered. Reason for this? What degree did
Bill Gates have? Yeah, that one.
 Extensive hands on experience working with very large data sets, including statistical
analyses, data visualization, data mining, and data cleansing/transformation.
 Inside internal mechanics knowledge of many of these machine learning concepts:
supervised/unsupervised learning, loss functions, regularization, feature selection,
regression/classification, cross-validation, bagging, kernel methods, sampling, and
probability distributions and cross variable algorithms
 Experience prototyping and developing data mining solutions using statistical software
packages preferred but not required.
 Strong ability to communicate deep analytical results in forms that resonate with
scientific and/or business collaborators, highlighting actionable insights but not so geeky
that you cannot explain to the founders.
 Entrepreneurial fever to discover what (can be) opportunities while applying analytical
techniques to business/scientific problems across the goals.
 Strong Unix/Linux scripting skills (Perl, Python, etc) PHP, Java all required.
 Familiarity with writing SQL queries and working with databases. (all types, makes and
models)
 Object oriented programming experience (Java, C++, etc).
 Capacity to motivate and train junior scientists
 Previous experience working with common R&D data streams is a plus.
Responsibilities
Fully understand the vision and work with the founders directly to implement and build it.
 Lead the Analytics and data team.
 Build functional models. No time for test models here.
 Collaborate with software developers to plan and construct the architecture surrounding
model deployment.
 Collaborate with dev engineers and founders to define the data modeling goals for
designated project areas.
 Either build or buy needed technologies to accomplish the goals
 Establish research and reporting activities in order to meet established timetables and
objectives.
 Design and implement creative approaches to advancing beyond the first year visions and
plans.
 Acquire any specialized domain knowledge required to be more effective in all required
activities or advice with honesty where there might be gaps so they can be filled.
 Get a twitter account and start reading tweets. If you don’t have one yet it’s not a problem
but we might laugh at you then we will get to work.
Compensation: Competitive
Equity: Yes
Location: Seattle, Wa, (Can’t move? We can discuss it).
Ready to get started?
First things first. Contact us and let’s discuss the appropriate time
for a FBI background check. We have arranged for this through
the government contractor Verizon. ;-)
