London Schools Conference 2014
London has a proud tradition of embracing our many different cultures and languages. Schools often fulfil the role of
‘community hubs’, supporting newly-arrived families and those with English as an Additional Language (EAL), to
overcome barriers, encourage their children and contribute their skills and talents.
This free half-day conference looks at innovative ways in which schools can optimise relations with their local migrant
communities in order to encourage parental engagement and raise attainment. Delegates will benefit from current
research in education, cultural integration and welfare, as well as gaining practical EAL strategies for the classroom.
There will be valuable opportunities to meet community and advice organisations and to learn how to commission
extended services using the Pupil Premium for low-income families.
Provisional Programme - with speakers and workshops on the following topics:
1. Integration, Education and Welfare : Overview of current challenges
2. Creative Approaches to Raising the Achievement of EAL pupils
3. Engaging Parents and Meeting Community Needs: What works?
4. Innovation and Commissioning: Creating a community hub
This event is recommended for:
Head Teachers, Deputy Head Teachers, Heads of Inclusion, Extended Schools Coordinators
