This slides contains screenshots with notes on how to use the OpenStreetMap (OSM) website for a newbie or for someone who wants to use all the components present in the OSM website.
Open your browser.
Type www.openstreetmap.org or www.osm.org in the address bar.
You can now use the OpenStreetMap.
1. Tap on Show My Location
1. This will show your location on the map according to the ISP location.
Type Tundikhel in the search box
Press Enter or click on Go.
You will see the search results which matches with Tundikhel.
Click on the second search result.
You will see the map zoomed to the feature.
You will see information about the feature (who mapped, when it was mapped, tags, version, changeset) at the left corner of the screen.
Click on the arrow button at the side of GO.
You will see From, To and the type of medium to use while navigation in OSM.
From is the point of start
To is the destination
Type of medium can be Car, Bycycle etc.
Drag the From symbol (green) to the place on the map from where you want to start your journey.
You will see that the From box populates with latitude and longitude.
You can even type the name of the place in From box and OSM will search and populate the box with the place name.
Type Jawalakhel in the To box.
Press Enter or click on Go.
You can now see the route.
You have selected CAR (OSRM) in the type of medium so it shows the route where the car can pass.
Click on the arrow alongside CAR(OSRM).
You will see a dropdown list.
Select Bicycle (Mapzen).
Press Enter.
1. Now you will see the shortest route which can be travelled by bicycle.
Click on layers
You will see Map Notes at the bottom.
Click on the box at its left side.
You will see a number of red points all over the map.
Explain Map Notes.
Click on one of the notes.
Explain the details.
Click on another note.

1. Remove the notes by removing the tick at the side of Map Notes.
1. Click on Add a note to the map at the right corner of the screen.
You will see a point added the map blue in color.
This is a new note.
Drag the map so the point is above the feature you want to add as note.
Write the information about the note in the box at the left corner of the screen under the heading New Note.
Click on Add Note.
You can see your note added to the map.
The color of the note now will be red.
Explain that the mappers around the world can map this in OSM and resolve the note.
The color of the note will change to green after the note is resolved.
1. Click on the Share button at the right corner of the screen.
1. You will see the above screen.
1. Tick mark the box alongside Include Marker.
2. You will see a blue point on the map.
3. Drag the map so that the point lies above the feature you want to share the location of.
Under Include Marker, you can see Link.
Link contains the long link which can be copied and shared in email or messages.
Click on Short Link.
This contains the short link of the map shown in the screen.
You can share this via email or messaging.
Copy the short link.
Open New tab on the browser.
Paste the short link in the address bar.
You can see the map.
Close the new tab.
Tick mark the box at the side of Set custom dimensions.
You will a box in the map.
1. You can change the format of the output image.
2. Click on PNG. You will see different format.
3. Click on JPEG.
4. Click on Download.
Click on Layers.
You will see different map styles available in OSM.
Click on Cycle Map.
1. Click on Transport Map.
1. Click on MapQuest Open.
1. Click on Humanitarian.
Click on Map Key.
You will see a legend. This shows the meaning of different symbols and colors used in the map style.
Click on Query features at the right side of the screen.
Click on the feature you want to know about.
You will see a list of features nearby the feature you have clicked on.
Hover over Residential Road, the feature highlights.
Click on it.
1. You will see the information about the feature at the left side of the screen.
