This document discusses lessons learned about social media use on university campuses. It provides six lessons: 1) Social media is a conversation that may or may not include you; 2) Lead by positive example on social media; 3) Social media works best when integrated across departments and groups; 4) Build community engagement through social media; 5) Approach social media use scientifically by defining goals and testing approaches; and 6) Develop a strategic social media plan that is worth prioritizing resources. The document uses analogies and personal anecdotes to illustrate lessons about effectively utilizing social media at universities.
