Technology
Teaching and learning are no longer confined to the classroom or the
school day. There are many technologies that can offer a great deal of
flexibility in when, where, and how education is distributed. Virtual
schooling and technology are synonymous with one another and below
confirms this point.
Attributes of technology in virtual schooling
It allows self-paced instruction; it allows learners to proceed at their own pace,
receive feedback immediately
It offers high levels of interactivity allows embedded questions and interactions,
as well as online collaboration
It allows worldwide access it allows, the Internet can be accessed by millions of
people throughout the world

Technology Cont…
Distance learning technologies offer a myriad of benefits for K-12 education, including convenience,
flexibility, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Convenience: Technologies can provide convenient locations for students and instructors. The
Internet and telephone are easily accessed and videoconferencing can be distributed from a single
point or remote sites.
Flexibility: Students can participate whenever they wish, on an individualized basis. In addition,
one student may wish to spend 30 minutes reviewing a website, while another spends an hour.
Effectiveness: Research studies have found that virtual schooling is equally or more effective than
traditional instruction when the method and technologies used are appropriate to the instructional
tasks.
Affordability: Many forms of distance learning involve little or no cost. In addition, almost all
homes have access to a telephone and/or the Internet, enabling the use of voicemail and audio
conferencing.
Multi-sensory: Students learn from visual stimuli, such as video, others learn best by listening or
interacting with a computer program. Learners have a wide range of choices, providing optimal
interaction and media.
Interactivity: Virtual schooling offers increased interactions with students, introverted students who
are too shy to ask questions in class will “open up" when provided the opportunity to interact.

Distant Collaboration
Distant collaboration allows students to be more efficient
Gives students greater flexibility
Allows teachers to more adequately meet the demands of
students
More personalized interaction
5.
Distant Collaboration Cont.,
•Students are able to work from home, or in the classroom by a
teacher who facilitates online learning
•Studies show students are more often to participate within an
online classroom setting, than a traditional classroom setting.

Local facilitation allows virtual schooling to run smoothly for
students
A knowledgeable teacher or counselor can help make students
aware of virtual schooling opportunities
Students are able to ask questions of local facilitators and have
the opportunity to take classes that they might not otherwise be
able to
Local facilitators help monitor student progress and keep track
of assessments
Local Facilitation

Whether you are an advocate of virtual schooling or are on
the fence, unsure of which way to go. With the information
provided to you, you are now more knowledgable about
what it entails. In regard to technology you know that it is
convenient, cost effect and allows students to interact while
still learning more about technology. Through distant
collaboration we know that students are given flexibility by
being able to work from home, or in the classroom by a
teacher who facilitates online learning. Also regarding local
facilitation administrators are allowed to develop a program
specific to their students and allow students to have hands on
help when needed.
