3. PREFACE
In the midst of Covid-19 global pandemic, we are happy to announce the successful completion of the Planning Studio VIII – CRP 402 Course in June, 2021. During
these extraordinary times, Spring Term of the 2020-2021 Academic Year continued via online platforms as in the Fall Term. Coping with the challenges of online
education, building our communication on screens, and managing uncertainties, we, both students and instructors, have worked hard to maintain our best-known
practice, i.e. the quality of the studio education, and learning outcomes. Eventually, we managed to achieve the targets and keep the standards we set for the CRP 402
Planning Studio.
In this digital catalogue, we brought together all of the projects prepared by the studio members. As we all know, CRP402 Studio focuses on analyzing and addressing
to particular problems observed in a metropolitan area, which was Antalya Metropolitan Area for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Studio Projects presented here have
been completed by two-member groups through the studio program organized in the two progressive stages, respectively: 1) Thematic strategic framework within
modular studies, 2) Urban design project.
The first stage involves developing a strategic framework with key interventions, and basic planning and design approaches considering properties of the selected
study area and its problematic issues. Urban conservation, regeneration, urban farming and agriculture, seafront development, urban transportation systems, healthy
communities and resilient development are some of the concepts and topics we focus on.

projects are held to cover five sub-regions of Antalya Metropolitan Area. Each sub-region is characterized in different areas like the “city center” and the “Kırcami
neighborhood” for Muratpaşa district or the “Altıntaş neighborhood” and the “Perge Ancient City” for Aksu district, which expose different problematic planning and
design factors and forces.
We will be pleased to hear your opinions and comments on outputs of the CRP 402 Planning Studio. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Feedbacks are
highly appreciated and will help improving senior class studio education.
