2. STARpro
STARlite
STARpro – the platform for large and complex treatment
plants
STARpro is the professional and right choice for online control of large, complex treatment plants: Allowing
comprehensive solutions integrating the control of treatment plant and sewer system. Highly robust solu-
tion with precision control. Many control modules for hydraulically improved capacity utilization. Offers a
good overview of a large number of modules and treatment plants within the same system.
STARlite – the platform for smaller systems
STARlite is the cheaper alternative for access to the advanced and well-tested control modules and features
used in STAR Control®. The control is developed for small treatment plants where the biological/chemical
wastewater treatment takes place in one process line.
Documented advantages of STAR Control®
Depending on the choice of modules, the following advantages can be expected with STAR Control® installed:
5-20 % increased treatment capacity
10-30% increased hydraulic capacity
20-50% improved treatment
10-30% reduced energy consumption for aeration
5-15% reduced excess sludge quantity
20-60% reduced need for precipitant
20-50% reduced carbon dosing
20-50% reduced stormwater tank volume
20-30% fewer overflows
The implementation of the STAR Control® modules will, among other things, allow the treatment plant
to utilize optimally its existing process volume such that a planned extension of the plant capacity can be
postponed, minimized or even avoided.
With a combination of, for example, ammonia and nitrate online sensors it is possible to reduce the operat-
ing costs of the treatment plant to such an extent that the investment can be paid back within a few years.
Hereafter it will be pure savings on the operating budget.
If a calculation of the savings potential is desired for a specific treatment plant or sewer system, Krüger of-
fers to make a pre-study.
STAR Control® gives access to the latest know-how in “real-time”
control of sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants – wheth-
er in dry weather situations, in heavy rain or during periods with
snow melt. The wastewater system is upgraded to effective
utilization of available storage volumes and mechanical
equipment with cutting-edge real time control technol-
ogy. Infrastructural investments can be postponed or
even avoided, at the same time as the operating
economy and the environment can be signifi-
cantly improved.
Modular system
STAR Control® is a modular system that
can be tailored to any wastewater sys-
tem, whether there is a need for stand-
alone online control of a wastewater
treatment plant or sewer system, or a
need for total solutions with integrated
control of the entire wastewater system.
The complexity of the control is also
optional and ranges from radar-based
forecast control to simple unit-based PID
regulations.
All modules in STAR Control® are compatible
allowing, for example, a small treatment plant
to start “small scale” with a few simple control
modules, and then later extending with more control
modules or more complex control modules, or possibly inte-
grating the control of sewer systems and several treatment plants.
The STAR Control® interface ensures uniform access to the processes in the
various types of treatment plants and sewer systems that a utility company typically consists of. It is known
from experience that this saves time and reduces the number of errors in the daily operation. At the same
time, the educational interface gives a boost to the level of competence and knowledge.
