  • 15. Introduction Chemical changes are called Chemical Reaction. In science, we write the Chemical Reaction in a form of Chemical Equation.
  • 16. 2H2 + O2 2H2O Reactants Product
  • 17. Types Of Chemical Reaction
  • 18. Combination Reaction Also known as synthesis reactions, these are reactions in which 2 or more substances combine to form a more complex substance.
  • 19. Combination Reaction A+B AB
  • 20. Combination Reaction Example: C + O2 CO2
  • 21. Decomposition Reaction Is the reverse of combination reaction. In this reaction, a complex substance is broken down into simpler substances.
  • 22. Decomposition Reaction AB A+B
  • 23. Decomposition Reaction Example: 2HgO 2Hg+O2
  • 24. Single-Displacement Reaction Are reactions in which an element displaces another element that is in a compound. It is also known as Substitution Reaction.
  • 25. Single-Displacement Reaction A+BC AC+ B NOTE!!!
  • 26. Note!!! Refer to the activity series for metals and non metals to predict products of replacement reactions. If the free element is above the element to be replaced, then the reaction will occur. If it is below, then no reaction occurs.
  • 27. Single-displacement Reaction Example: Zn + 2HCl ZnCl2 + H2
  • 28. Double-Displacement Reaction Are reactions in which two compounds make an exchange.
  • 29. Double-Displacement Reaction AB+CD AD+CB
  • 30. Double-displacement Reaction Example: BaCl2+ Na2SO4 BaSO4 + 2NaCl
  • 31. Safety first!
