4. The Other Whisper (and Free Hot Port)
What do you do when the voices in your head say the doctors are out to get you, and the doctors say the same
about the voices? In a world growing ever more shattered and confusing, young Eoin Murphy must decide what is
real and, perhaps more importantly, choose what is right.
Ian Paul Power’s debut urban fantasy novel will be launched at the Gutter Bookshop, Cow’s Lane, Dublin 8, on
Monday 25th November. Meet and greet begins at 6.30pm, with hot port and canapés available from 7 o’clock. A
short reading will follow, and guest speakers singing the author’s praises will be kept mercifully brief; so you can
browse and chat, drink your fill of hot port, and get your brand new copy of ‘The Other Whisper’ signed, until
8.30pm.
"My name is Eoin, and I'm mentally ill. Every day is filled with whispers, and every night with tears.
Nothing can stop the sounds that tear my life apart. Now there's a new doctor, and a miracle pill. But
instead of banishing the whispers, it gives them a voice, and that voice is telling me that my doctor is
out to get me..."
Eoin is 15, and caught between two worlds. When his mysterious new doctor proposes a radical treatment, he
jumps at the chance to rid himself of the haunting whispers that plague his thoughts. But the whispers do not go
away. Instead there is a new voice, stronger and clearer than those before, a voice with dire warnings and strange
demands. The voice tells him that his doctor is lying and will get him killed. Isolated from his family, Eoin must
decide who to believe, as the world he thought he knew crumbles around him. Who can he trust, his doctor… or
The Other Whisper?
‘The Other Whisper’ is a coming of age story, following Eoin Murphy as he begins to question the truths told to him
by those who love him. He sets out to find his own truth, nearly loses himself as he does so - and finds more than
he ever imagined. Meet Ian Paul Power at the launch on Monday 25th November, or buy ‘The Other Whisper’ ebook
or in print from Wolfpack Publishers at www.WolfpackPublishers.com/fantasy-fiction.

7. Orla Casey, owner at
Momentum Consulting
I have worked with and for Lora on a number of
occasions in differing tourism and heritage roles over
the past number of years.
Naturally creative and an excellent communicator,
Lora combines a sound marketing and literary
prowess, a strong commitment to community tourism
through her involvement in the new branding and
marketing campaign for Roscommon Tourism and
leading a major new investment for Rathcroghan
Visitor Centre.
She brings skill, energy and a fresh approach to her
work which I can highly recommend.
10. Innovative Community Focus in Roscommon
Cruachan Aí Heritage Centre in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon, has organized a series of workshops which
take care of the local landscape and farming community, while offering participants a true connection
to Irish heritage, and learning of traditional crafts and skills.
First in the series is the Dry Stone Walls workshop, running from Friday 18th to Sunday
20th February. You can be collected from the local airport, train or bus station, accommodated in a
self catering cottage in the Medieval village of Tulsk, and on Saturday and Sunday you learn how to
build and repair stone walls in the traditional Irish way, under the expert tuition of a local master
craftsman.
Why is it different from other traditional skills offerings? Because the workshop is put to sound
practical use on a local level, repairing and building stone walls for local farmers, who may otherwise
have chosen not to rejuvenate the heritage feature, so integrally iconic to the West of Ireland. Or
worse – to replace with modern fencing.
As a bonus, participants and their families also get to explore the legendary Rathcroghan, the seat of
Royalty in the West of Ireland for nearly 2000 years. When you sign up for a weekend workshop,
you can explore Irish history through the ages: walk the land of Celtic Warrior Queen Maeve, see
where the great bulls fought their epic battle in the Cattle Raid of Cooley, follow the Druid’s quest for
knowledge to the sacred triple spring of healing, stand where the Gaelic Kings stood to fight invading
tyranny and receive their rightful crowns.

14. Sisters are Doing it for Themselves!
You are never alone. Never. A series of social evening events for lesbians and bisexual women will be held at
Roscommon Women’s Network through September and October. Women from all areas of the West and Midlands
regions are invited to attend. The purpose of the events is to provide safe space in which women of a certain
persuasion can meet, relax and have fun.
The events are being organised by the ELLA group, in conjunction with the Roscommon Women’s Network, with
funding received from the Roscommon Integrated Development Company, with help from Roscommon VEC.
The objective is to provide women who are part of a minority community with a social outlet and a voice. You might
think that perhaps an event like this is not for you? Maybe it’s not, but perhaps you need to give yourself a little
extra push towards what might be the positive experience of being among your own.
Friday 11th September – Opening Night – Express Yourself!
Burlesque Babes Workshop
Learn a saucy, fun Feather Boa dance routine with Burlesque moves like the Scoop and the Shimmy. Let out your
inner Diva and learn how to pose like a showgirl! A high energy, fun but easy routine that incorporates some floor
work. This workshop is suitable for women of all ages and fitness levels. There is no nudity or rudeness, just a lot of
sassy fun! Or if that doesn’t tickle your fancy…
Creative Writing Workshop
Grace Brennan, Creative Writing Facilitator. Creative writing is anything where the purpose is to express thoughts,
feelings and emotions rather than to simply convey information. This workshop is suitable for women of all ages
and levels of writing experience.
You are never alone. Sometimes, sisters really can do it for themselves. Just turn up on the night, it’s fabulous and
it’s free! Or for more information, you can telephone Roscommon Women’s Network, in full confidence, at 094 962
