2. Definition
Laser
Laser is a device mechanism that emits
electromagnetic radiation, usually in the
form of light that can not be seen or can be
seen with normal eyes, through the process
of stimulated emission. The emission of
laser is usually single, emits photons in a
coherent emission. Lasers can also be said
of the effects of quantum mechanics. The
term "laser" originated as
an acronym for Light Amplification by
Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
3. Optical fiber
An optical fiber (or optical fibre) is a
flexible, transparent fiber made of
glass (silica) or plastic, slightly thicker
than a human hair. It functions as
a waveguide, or “light pipe”, to
transmit light between the two ends of
the fiber. The light source that used is
usually laser or LED

4. Frequency Range
In terms of frequency, this corresponds to a
band in the vicinity of 430–790 THz
Around 405 nm produces a violet light
600 - 700 nm results in visible red light,
which penetrates up to 1/2".

9. Founder
In 1957, Charles Hard
Townes and Arthur Leonard Schawlow,
then at Bell Labs, began a serious study
of the infrared laser. As ideas developed,
they abandoned infrared radiation to
instead concentrate upon visible light.
The concept originally was called an
"optical maser". In 1958, Bell Labs filed a
patent application for their proposed
optical maser; and Schawlow and
Townes submitted a manuscript of their
theoretical calculations to the Physical
Review, published that year in Volume
112, Issue No. 6.
10. Application
Medicine: Bloodless surgery, laser
healing, surgical treatment, kidney
stone treatment, eye treatment, dentistry
Industry: Cutting, welding, material heat
treatment, marking parts, non-contact
measurement of parts
Military: Marking targets,
guiding munitions, missile
defence, electro-optical countermeasures
(EOCM), alternative to radar, blinding
troops.
Law enforcement: used for
latent fingerprint detection in the forensic
identificationfield

Cidera mata
Laser dapat membakar retina mata
dan bahkan permukaan kulit jika tidak
tepat dioperasikan
15. 3. Apa Keuntungan Fiber Optik
Dibanding Media Lain?
- Lebih kecil ukurannya
- Penurunan kualitas sinyal lebih sedikit
- Daya listrik kecil
- Ringan dan fleksibel
- Komunikasi lebih aman
