Different Assessment Types For Students 
Learning is a continuous process. It is dynamic in nature. Along with teaching the students,                             
educators have to make sure that students are learning what they are being taught. That is                               
where assessments become important. They tell us whether the educational goals set earlier                         
are met or not. Before we set our educational objectives, we need to understand what we are                                 
trying to accomplish, and we know that for any kind of planning, we need assessments too.                               
Assessments keep a check on both students and teachers. It helps check the student’s base of                               
knowledge. Depending on the student’s performance and way of expressions, teachers can                       
draw out what they require to teach and how they must polish their teaching methods for the                                 
child. Assessments provide a well­planned and strategized feedback of the learning session. 
 
Assessments help teachers make decisions related           
to the teaching plan which suits their students best.                 
They are also a tool for student’s self­evaluation.               
Students can learn how to explain their             
knowledgeable thoughts; they can understand how           
to perform better and what new they need to learn.                   
Assessments refine the relation between a student             
and a teacher and allow them to develop an                 
understanding. 
 
Assessments are broadly classified in two           
categories: 
 
Formative Assessment 
 
Formative assessments are conducted during the           
teaching process. These are of lower value, or have                 
low marks range. The formative evaluation is done               
through tests or other activities like projects, quiz, reports, etc. The main motive of this                             
assessment is to monitor the student’s learning process. It allows teachers to know about how                             
close they are to their pre­defined objectives and what remedial methods do they need to adopt                               
for better deliverance of the topics, they are able to target areas that need work. Students are                                 
able to find their areas of weakness and can work on it at the right time with the help of their                                         
teacher. Formative assessments are held more frequently and it is a regular process. This                           
improves the learning process and makes sure that the lessons delivered by teacher are                           
understood and well. 
 
Summative Assessment 
 
 
Summative Assessments are held at completion of the course. These are of high value, i.e. they                               
have high marks range. Its purpose is to evaluate student’s performance. These well prepared                           
exam test papers are terminal in nature. Summative evaluation gives a report on how well the                               
students have understood their course. It allows teachers to measure the effectiveness of their                           
preset objectives and teaching methods. 
 
IPS Academy is affiliated to CBSE. As per CBSE, class I­X is divided into two terms. Both                                 
formative and summative assessments are held for evaluation of the student. For scholastic                         
evaluation either of the terms consists of two formative assessments and one summative                         
assessment. With the help of continuous properly schedules exams, IPS Academy focuses on                         
student’s development with the help of analysis of learning gaps. We evaluate the student’s                           
performance and search for the scope of development to take corrective measures as per the                             
requirement. Regular assessments provide a base for self­evaluation of teachers as well as the                           
students.
