PLACEMENTS
FLOWCHARTING
A flowchart is a type of diagram that represents an algorithm, workflow or
process, showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by
connecting them with arrows. This diagrammatic representation illustrates a
solution model to a given problem. Flowcharts are used in analyzing, designing,
documenting or managing a process or program in various fields. Examples of
some simple flowcharts:
INTRODUCTION
College placement is the program conducted within educational institutes or in a
common place to provide jobs to students pursuing or in the stage of completing
the programme.
In this programme, industries visit the colleges to select students depending on their
ability to work, capability, focus and aim.
The major objective of campus placement is to identify the talented and qualified
professionals before they complete their education. Many students do not
understand the importance of placement training that is being imparted due to
projects, assignments etc.
The most significant fact about Campus Recruitment is that instead of the job
seekers approaching employers, the employers come to the most suitable
prospective candidate with a job offer. It is common practice for Institutes today to
hire a Placement Officer who coordinates with small, medium and large sized
Companies and helps in streamlining the entire Campus Recruitment procedure.

TROUBLE SPOTS DURING PLACEMENTS
Though placement forms an integral part of a student’s life and gives a head start to
his career, there are various trouble spots that have been identified during the
placement process. The most important ones have been listed below:-
 Timings of the interviews
 Communication skills
 Awareness of Placements
Each of the above mentioned problems have been discussed in detail in the following
slides through flowcharts and the remedies/solutions have been listed.
TIMINGS OF INTERVIEWS
 This is a big problem as timings of interviews for two different companies
clash and the student is in a dilemma as to which interview to attend . The
company that they opt for doesn’t assure them of the job . They might
loose out on a very good opportunity this way . They might end up in a job
that they are not completely satisfied with resulting in a bad start to their
career .
 There is also this problem that once you get selected for a job you can’t sit
for placements of another company. In many cases it may so happen that
you see a better job opportunity but you are bound to the company .In
such cases if you want to apply for the job you will have to let go off the
job in hand with huge risk of not being selected for the other job
REMEDIES
The interviewing companies could take the following measures to avoid the
clash of the Interview timings:-
 They could coordinate the timings accordingly.
 They could inform the candidates well in advance about the timings.
 They could put forth such opportunities for the candidates which would
make it easier for the latter to make a decision and choose one over the
other.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Interviews require students to have good communication skills to interact
with the recruiters.
Students belonging to the linguistic community find it difficult to communicate
because of the lack of the knowledge of English language inspite of having good
technical knowledge.
This becomes a huge drawback for them Such students lose out on opportunities
and are not allowed to sit for the interview
Company ends up highering people who may be less deserving in a way
REMEDIES
 The college should take measures to preach the knowledge English language.
 Classes should be taken by the students within the college campus to impart
knowledge of English to their fellow mates belonging to the linguistic
community
 The company should take measures to give such students a chance to sit for the
interview.
 Students belonging to backward castes should put in more enthusiasm and show
interest in grasping the knowledge of English language.
 Both, the students as well as the faculty members should put in equal efforts to
make the interview process a successful one.
Clubs should be started to improve communication skills of the students.
Mock interviews should be taken by the college faculty.
AWARENESS OF PLACEMENTS
Many students are not aware of the placements taking place in their college and
are not sure of how to apply for the same.
They are not aware of how to approach the placement officer of the college.
They lack awareness in building a good resume.
The knowledge of which company is best suited for them is also poor.
Even if they are aware of the placements taking place within the college campus,
they are unaware of how to tackle it.
REMEDIES
 The company should take measures such that every student in the campus is
aware of the placements and interviews taking place within the campus
 The college should put up notice boards across the campus to bring to the
students’ notice, the placements taking place within the college campus.
 The students should be aware of the placements and should keep a track of all
the date records. The students should be well-informed of the placements taking
place within the college campus.
Workshops regarding resume building and interviews must be conducted by the
college.
Counselors should be appointed to guide the students about the whole process of
placements and also in helping them to decide about which company is the best for
them.
OVERVIEW OF SOLUTIONS
 College managements should have tie-up with industries while starting their courses
 Colleges may earmark some amounts in their annual budges for the placement
activity.
 Colleges should form alumni associations and annual alumni meetings need to be
arranged to support placement activity.
 Career portal services can be utilized by the colleges to improve their placements
 Universities may conduct Job Fests by inviting various companies to one place to help
the students of the affiliated colleges.
 Universities also maintain the data base of the students of affiliated colleges and
disseminate the same to prospective employers.
 Colleges should create placement cells and appoint placement officers exclusively to
look after placement activity.
LESSONS LEARNT
Our understanding about the placement process has increased.
We are more aware of the requirements about such placements.
We have learnt to deal with the problems faced during placements.
We will put in efforts to improve our communication skills.
