2. Overview!
Errol Lawson and Naomi Adjepong from Emerge Leadership were invited by Sutton
Coldfield Grammar School for girls to facilitate the ‘Learning to Lead’ programme for 30
year 11 students. Emerge delivered four separate workshops on:!
Goal Setting - Helping students to understand the purpose and power of goal
setting and helping them to set goals for their future in 7 different areas. !
Confidence building - Helping students understand how to build their confidence
and providing them with practical strategies to be able to do so. !
Public speaking and communication skills: Helping students to understand the art
of public speaking, why good communication is important and allowing each student to
have the opportunity to practice public speaking and get constructive feedback. !
Team working skills: Helping the students to understand the relationship between
the leaders and the team and allowing them to take part in fun experiential learning
teamwork activities. !
!
The response and feedback from the students was fantastic. When asked for their
feedback on the programme the students said:!
!
!
“It is fun and you are able to practice leadership skills.”
!
“The sessions with team building etc stood out for me.
They gave me new ideas for the future and have helped
me understand what being a leader is like.”
“It is extremely helpful and Errol’s sessions were inspirational!”!
!
“Setting ourselves goals was my highlight because I
didn’t realise what I wanted and now I DO!”
!
“I think the goal setting session was very good, as it makes everyone individually set goals
and makes you want to reach them.”
!
“Learning about how to gain confidence and routes which you should take to do so have
impacted me the most, because they have shown me how I can be more confident and
believe!”
