Free Internet Resources for Libraries Mr.  Lauren  P.  Kipaan Benguet State University
Rationale Libraries now faced the problem of online presence. Finances and technological skills are the main reasons.  Web 2.0 significantly affect the web, thus, making all people as collaborator of knowledge. So, if many people collaborate for free then a lot of free resources will be available. Internet is a library of good and evil.
Objectives To gain knowledge and skills on the different free internet resources applicable for  the libraries. To be able to apply at least 50% of the skills learned.
Definition	 Free- no cost  web resources  ( but not “free beer”) Internet-  web Resources- sites and applications Open access- free browsing, download, and minimal response and edit. Social media- allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content technologies.
Disclaimer This presentation is just a remedy for libraries who can’t afford  to fund  their web services   Web is a very dynamic and multi-function, so, I might be wrong in some  aspects and classification.
Overview
Open access: Dictionaries and thesaurus KirzeN is a very unique, internationally public dictionary with multimedia content. The community welcome each new member either it want to share its knowledge or gain some. The KirzeN Dictionary contains vocabulary, definitions and even example of usage in a lot of different languages. In addition, multimedia content is attached to entertain the users of KirzeN during language learning. It is very important to see a picture or watch a video about the meaning of a word. Especially in the case when that word is completely new for you. KirzeN’s database is based on mutual help. KirzeN is absolutely free of charge. There is no registration fee or monthly admission.   • 2. Rationale Libraries now faced the problem of online presence. Finances and technological skills are the main reasons. Web 2.0 significantly affect the web, thus, making all people as collaborator of knowledge. So, if many people collaborate for free then a lot of free resources will be available. Internet is a library of good and evil.
  • 3. Objectives To gain knowledge and skills on the different free internet resources applicable for the libraries. To be able to apply at least 50% of the skills learned.
  • 4. Definition Free- no cost web resources ( but not “free beer”) Internet- web Resources- sites and applications Open access- free browsing, download, and minimal response and edit. Social media- allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content technologies.
  • 5. Disclaimer This presentation is just a remedy for libraries who can’t afford to fund their web services Web is a very dynamic and multi-function, so, I might be wrong in some aspects and classification.
