  • Now lets talk about the second type of cellular transport: Active Transport
    • Active Transport is the movement of materials through transport proteins from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration.
    • This movement of materials doesn’t happen naturally it requires energy. The type of energy that is used to transport materials during active transport is ATP
  • Passive Transport vs. Active Transport
    • The diagrams to the left show the difference between cellular transport through Passive and Active Transport
  • Are there other types of active transport?
  • What is Endocytosis ?
    • Endocytosis is the process of taking substances into a cell by surrounding it with the cell membrane. Endocytosis is shown below.
  • What about Exocytosis ?
    • Exocytosis is the opposite of endocytosis . During exocytosis vesicles containing materials fuse with the cell membrane and release materials outside of the cell.
