The founder, president, and chief executive officer of
Intersport, Inc., Charles Besser parlays his passion for
sports into making the company a leader in the sports and
entertainment media industry. A graduate of Marquette
University Law School, Charles Besser also attended
Marquette for his undergraduate studies. Due to his
excellent performance in varsity golf, Charlie Besser
received the Robert L. and William P. McCahill Award, an
honor presented to a senior athlete who proves to be the
best athlete, scholar, and leader for the year.

McCahill Award
The namesakes for the McCahill Award are Marine Captain
Robert L. McCahill, a bronze star recipient and former
Marquette football player who lost his life during the Battle
of Iwo Jima, and Marine Colonel William P. McCahill, a
historian and track and field star. Recipients of the award
represent many different sports, including football, tennis,
cross country, and volleyball. Every recipient embodies the
spirit of excellence of the McCahills.
