notes, please look at the
graphic organizer. There are 4
boxes under "North" and 4
under "South." However, the
bottom two boxes should be
combined. So, pretend it looks
like this:

Opposed high tariffs
because it made imports
more expensive

about the Nullification
Crisis? This is the tariff that
South Carolina was so mad
about! They didn't want to
buy from the North so they
hated the tariff. But the
North likes money, so they
supported a tariff that
would force the South to
buy from them!

time it was an issue?
8. Missouri Compromise
A. Drew East-West line through
Louisiana
B. All land below the line = slave states
C. All land above the line EXCEPT Missouri
= free states
D. Missouri slave state.

A. California comes in as free state
B. Utah and New Mexico get popular
sovereignty
C. Popular Sovereignty= Citizens get to
choose if they want to be a free state or a
slave state

A. Kansas and Nebraska given popular
sovereignty
13. B. Leads to fighting in Kansas between pro-slavery
and anti-slavery forces (“Bleeding Kansas”)

of slavery (NOT to stop slavery completely)
