Welcome to my classroom.
Class is now in session.
SEGMENT II - Erroneous English Question
Don’t let bad grammar stop you from getting a promotion.
Every week on podcast you get a quiz to check good English usage.
Thus, we begin our class with the Erroneous English Question of the Week.
In Episode 52, your last Erroneous English Question you learned
about correctly using Didn’t with the Third Conditional.
You can go back and listen to Episode 52 at
www.businessenglishace.com/bear52.
Our Erroneous English deals with a common quandary or challenge – do
you use percent or percentage?
Our question is –
Which is correct English?
A) A large percent of the population owns at least one dog and one
cat.
OR
B) A large percentage of the population owns at least one dog and one
cat.
I explain the correct English at the end of our class.
SEGMENT III: Business English Ace Vocabulary
Research indicates being word wealthy means a life of success.
Business English Ace Radio – Class Notes 5 ©2016
Wham Media
Join me every week on the podcast to grow your Business English word
power.
The Business English Ace Vocabulary Word of the Week is – Letter of
Credit.
Letter of Credit is a noun that means – a letter issued by a bank to
another bank (especially one in a different country) to serve as a
guarantee for payments made to a specified person under specified
conditions.
That definition comes from a list of financial jargon compiled by the Bank
of Montreal.
Example: When the CEO of J and L Electronics went to Barukistan, he
carried a letter of credit in case his credit cards did not work.
Letter of Credit is a noun that means – a letter issued by a bank to
another bank (especially one in a different country) to serve as a
guarantee for payments made to a specified person under specified
conditions.
Be sure to study your vocabulary terms from the podcast.
Every fifth word vocabulary term you have a quiz.
Make sure to tell your friends to tune into Business English Ace Radio

SEGMENT IV Business English Ace Phrasal Verbs, Idioms, Collocation
Business English Ace Radio – Class Notes 6 ©2016
Wham Media
Did you study the idiom from last week?
As you know every week you and I explore a new phrasal verb, idiom, or
collocation that you can use in your business conversations or documents.
Last week in Episode 52 you learned about the idiom stay afloat.
You can go back to listen about how to use Stay Afloat at
http://www.businessenglishace.com/bear52.
Today you learn about the Business Phrasal Verb – Rip Off.
Rip off may be used as a separable or an inseparable phrasal verb.
Rip off [somebody] or Rip [somebody] off means “to charge too
much money for something.”
EX: The car salesman ripped me off $500 when I bought the new
Corvette.
So now you know how to use the Business Idiom rip off – in your business
conversations and documents.
Remember you can download all grammar and vocabulary presentations
for your class www.businessenglishace.com/bear53.
Continue to expand your business vocabulary with every episode
of the podcast.
SEGMENT V
Business English Career Corner
Are you looking for another job and you need to write a better CV or
resume?
You’re in luck this week!
Business English Ace Radio – Class Notes 7 ©2016
Wham Media
Welcome to this edition of Business English Career Corner for stellar career
advice to polish your CV or resume.
Every week in the Business English Career Corner you always get extra
skills for an edge over both colleagues and clients in the competitive global
economy.
While preparing for the podcast this week, I decided to change up the
Career Corner.
Normally you get advice on how to be more productive for success at the
office.
But this week, here is even more practical advice to make your CV or
resume shine.
I found a perfect article for you in the London Telegraph – 10 tips to get
your CV short-listed.
Tip 1: Don’t be dull - transform statements on your CV by adding a result
to make those dull statements more interesting.
For Example:
Led a team of 20 sales staff
There is not much information. It is quite dry.
Instead, write:
Led a team of 20 sales staff who exceeded all performance targets.
Now you have connected your ability to manage 20 employees with the
result - doing better than expected in projects.
You can read the whole article – 10 tips to get your CV short-listed at
bit.ly/cv10tips.
Good luck on your job hunt!

SEGMENT VII
Business English Ace Twisted English
I have a question – do you read business news in English?
It’s an excellent way to not only stay informed about the global business
world, but improve your vocabulary.
Business English Ace Radio – Class Notes 9 ©2016
Wham Media
Another way you improve your English is the Twisted Business English
segment of the podcast.
Every week your Twisted English segment helps you understand
headlines in the financial news.
Twisted English is when you and I examine news headlines have a twist.
Headline writers have to be clever and often use phrases to attract your
attention – the twist.
In the last episode, Episode 52, you learned about the phrase: “diamond
in the rough.”
You may go back and listen to Episode 52 at
http://www.businessenglishace.com/bear52.
Today you and I look at the following headline in our Twisted English
series: Is the Media Off Target On Gun Stocks.
What does the expression “off target” mean?
The twist in the headline comes from combining the topic of guns and the
expression “off target.”
Something or someone who is off target they are mistaken in their ideas
or thinking.
Thus, the headline could be rewritten as Is the media wrong about gun
stocks?.
Remember you can download the whole presentation at
www.businessenglishace.com/bear53.
That’s your Twisted Business English Phrase of the Week – off target -
someone or something that is mistaken.
Stay tuned for more Twisted Business English right here every week on
Business English Ace Radio.

And by the way, tell your friends about this episode to boost their Business
English as well.
SEGMENT VIII – Erroneous English Question Answer
Ok, it´s time to answer our Erroneous English Questions.
Our Erroneous English deals with a common quandary or challenge – do
you use percent or percentage?
Our question is –
Which is correct English?
A) A large percent of the population owns at least one dog and one
cat.
OR
B) A large percentage of the population owns at least one dog and one
cat.
Just remember this simple rule when choosing between percent and
percentage.
Use percent when you give a number – like 50%.
Use percentage when you don’t give number like Sentence B which is the
correct answer:
B) A large percentage of the population owns at least one dog and one
cat.
Did you get the right answer?
Tell me – leave a comment on the Business English Ace Facebook page at
bit.ly/beaface.

The Business English Ace Vocabulary Word of the Week is – Letter of Credit. Letter of Credit is a noun that means – a letter issued by a bank to another bank (especially one in a different country) to serve as a guarantee for payments made to a specified person under specified conditions. Every week your Twisted English segment helps you understand headlines in the financial news. Twisted English is when you and I examine news headlines have a twist. Headline writers have to be clever and often use phrases to attract your attention – the twist. In the last episode, Episode 52, you learned about the phrase: “diamond in the rough.” You may go back and listen to Episode 52 at http://www.businessenglishace.com/bear52. Today you and I look at the following headline in our Twisted English series: Is the Media Off Target On Gun Stocks. What does the expression “off target” mean? The twist in the headline comes from combining the topic of guns and the expression “off target.” Something or someone who is off target they are mistaken in their ideas or thinking. Thus, the headline could be rewritten as Is the media wrong about gun stocks?. Remember you can download the whole presentation at www.businessenglishace.com/bear53.
