Humans have always been infected with many deadly diseases. Many of which are curable and some are non-curable. Although there has been much advancement in the medical-science, some diseases have no cure and can only be prevented. Researchers are experimenting new ways to treat or prevent these diseases. Here we have shortlisted some deadly disease that has haunted humankind.
2. MALARIA
Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by Plasmodium parasitic.
It is transmitted by a bite from an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Common symptoms
include fever and headache, which in severe cases can progress to Coma or death.
3. HIV (HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS)
AIDS is a disease caused by a virus called HIV. It breaks down the immune system, making
people much more vulnerable to infections and diseases. It gets worsens as the disease
progresses, which has led to over 30 million deaths and still counting.
4. MEASLES
Measles is a very contagious (easily spread) illness caused by a virus through respiration. It
causes fever and red rash on the skin, mostly occurring in childhood.
5. CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASE
It is a group of conditions where the circulation of blood to the brain gets interrupted causing
limited or no blood flow as blood vessel is blocked or bursts open.
6. ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE
These are heart syndrome caused by the narrowing of the coronary pathway, which will
diminish the blood supply to the heart. Some estimates 1 in 3 people are said to die from
heart disease.
7. LOWER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS
There are two types of lower respiratory infections - Bronchitis and Pneumonia. These are
usually transmitted through the air, but sometimes through direct contact with contaminated
surfaces. Some common symptoms of these infections are sneezing, weakness, high fever,
coughing and fatigue.
8. WHOOPING COUGH (PERTUSSIS)
A highly contagious disease that affects the respiratory system. It spreads easily by coughing
and sneezing. It affects infants easily as they are too young to be fully immunized and can
sometimes be deadly. The best way to protect yourself and the babies around you is to get
vaccinated.
9. LUNG CANCER
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer in United States. People who smoke are at the
greatest risk of lung cancer. It’s the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in one or both
lungs, which then form tumors and interfere with the functioning of the lungs.
10. DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is the condition of having three or more loose or liquid bowel movements per day.
When it occurs body gets dehydrated by the loss of fluids along with potassium, electrolytes
and other salts. It is the second major cause of infant death worldwide.
11. TUBERCULOSIS
It usually attacks the lungs that are spread through airborne saliva and if left untreated,
it kills 50 % of the people who are infected with it. The symptoms of tuberculosis infection
are severe cough with blood-tingled sputum, fever, and weight loss.
12. SMALLPOX
Smallpox is an infectious disease caused by a virus called the Variola virus. This too is a
contagious disease which was once a deadly disease in the 20th century had claimed lives of
500 million people. It has now been completely eradicated by conducting various vaccination
campaigns.
13. Cholera
Cholera is an acute epidemic infectious disease caused by infection of the intestine with the
bacterium Vibrio Cholerae. These diseases are transmitted when consuming contaminated
food/water that contains the feces of an infected person. Vomiting and diarrhea are the main
symptoms of Cholera. Each year it affects 5 million people and 100,000 people die of it.
