1000 followers to 10000 followers
AD 48-49 Paul begins his missionary
trips. He explains the Christian faith.
AD 50-58 Paul spreads the word of Christ
to Turkey & Greece and most of his letters
are written during this time
3. AD 64 Starting on July 18, a fire swept through Rome
and burned up to 70% of the city over a period of a
week. Some citizens accused the Emperor Nero of
setting the fire. Nero pointed at the small group of
Christians as the culprits (they were innocent). Nero
had so many Christians horribly tortured that some
Romans began to feel sorry for them.
AD 68 The gospels of Matthew, Mark, & Luke are
believed to be written at this time.
4. AD 96-98 Christian persecutions are diminishing
due to the ruling of Nerva, the Roman Emperor.
AD 100 The fourth pope, St. Clement wrote 'God
chose our Lord Jesus Christ, and us through him
to be a special people.'
AD 112 Letter from Pliny. Establishes Roman
reaction to Christians. It explains that Christians
are not to be hunted out and that if they are
convicted they shall be punished.
5. AD 117 Development of Clergy and a letter
from Ignatius states that no communion or
baptism is to be had without the Bishop.
AD 150 Taitan complied the Diatessaron, a
biography of Jesus based off of the 4
Gospels. This signified that Christians only
recognized 4 Gospels.
AD 170 The earliest attempt to define the
Christian Scriptures (known now as the new
testament)
AD 177 Christians of Lyons persecuted
greatly.
6. AD 190 The first official Theological School built in
Alexandria, Egypt and existed for the next 50 years.
AD 232 Christian paintings are made of Jesus to
create a positive image.
AD 250 Roughly 5 percent of Rome's people were
Christian and Rome's economy begins to fall.
Christians are blamed for this and persecuted.
AD 251 The Church of Rome has A pope, 46
priests, 7 deacons, 7 sub-deacons, 42 acolytes, 52
exorcists, readers and doorkeepers, and the very
large number of 1500 widows and paupers being 'fed
by the grace and kindness of the Lord'.
7. AD 257 Valerian, A Roman Emperor,
intensifies Christian persecution.
AD 258 Cyprian, a rich pagan family born
convert, died for his Christian faith.
AD 260 Gallienus restores religious
tolerance and creates half a century of
peace.
AD 284 Diocletian comes into power with
Christian tolerance. He later declares that
all sacred texts and churches are to be
destroyed.
