2. What is Lung Cancer?
-Lung cancer is a growth of abnormal cells in one or
both lungs. These cells do not carry out the functions of
normal lung cells and do not develop into healthy lung tissue.

10. Stages of Lung Cancer
Stage 1. Cancer is in lungs and has not spread.
Stage 2. Cancer is in lungs nearby the lymph nodes.
Stage 3. Cancer is in the lung and lymph nodes within
the middle of your chest “it is advanced”.
Stage 4. The most advanced stage with the cancer in
both lungs which has fluid around both and cancer has
now reached other parts of your body such as liver
and or other organs.
12. Treatments for Lung Cancer
Surgery
-Wedge resection/ to remove a small section of lung that contains the tumor.
-Segmental/ to remove a larger portion of lung, but not an entire lobe.
-Lobectomy/ to remove the entire lobe of one lung.
-Pneumonectomy/ to remove an entire lung.
Chemotherapy
-Uses drugs to kill cancer cells and is often used after surgery to kill any cancer cells that
may remain. It may also be used before surgery to shrink cancers and make them easier to
remove
Radiation Therapy
-Radiation therapy uses high-powered energy beams from sources such as X-rays
and protons to kill cancer cells.
