2. What is PPE?
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the equipment you wear to reduce exposure
to hazards. Of course, that's after all attempts have been made to control or eliminate
hazards.
PPE is the last form of defense

Substitute the hazards

8. What DO YOU THINK?
MYTH 1: “If my colleague doesn’t want to wear PPE, I can’t make them wear it.”
FACT 1: If PPE has been deemed necessary by employers for employees, then it is
not optional and colleagues/employers have every right to remind colleagues to
wear PPE.
MYTH 2: “Gloves are slippery, and don’t allow me to get a good hold on objects.”
FACT 2: You can find gloves that suits the type of job and makes it easier to grasp
small and lightweight objects.
MYTH 3: “This job will only take a few minutes so I don’t need to take the time to
put on PPE.”
FACT 3: It only takes a second for an accident to occur. Remember exceptions lead
to injuries and deaths.
MYTH 4: “Cleaning and storing PPE isn’t really important.”
FACT 4 : After each use, PPE must be properly cleaned and stored according to
instructions. If PPE is damaged it won’t function the way it’s supposed to, leaving
the worker open to injury and health hazards. Any damaged or worn-out PPE must
immediately be reported to managers/employers so it can be replaced.
MYTH 5: “Wearing Personal Protection Equipment Means I am Safe”
FACT 5: The reality is that PPE been the last line of defense however it is far better
to be able to prevent an incident so that the PPE is not used than it is to rely on this
equipment to keep you safe.
