2. ο¨ English Folktale- Jack and the beanstalk
ο¨ I have chose this tale as not only does it have a
lot of characters it is a very popular English
folktale and I believe I can make a good
graphic novel based on certain scenes from the
story.
3. ο¨ Digital Photograph- I will take a variety of
photographs to explain the folktale of jack and
the beanstalk. The Photographs will include
The Beanstalk, The Giant and Jack.
ο¨ Illustration of Jack and the beanstalk- This will
be a drawing of a scene from the story and
done on paper and uploaded to the
presentation.
4. ο¨ Comic book version of the folktale. I will make
a comic book version of a scene in the story and
make it look professional. This will be done by
manipulating an image of a picture taken off
the internet of a farmer and making a comic
book version for experimental purposes only.
ο¨ Image manipulated by Rotoscope to relate to
narrative.
ο¨ Then the final task I will take part in will be the
evaluation explaining what went well or bad
for each method and ultimately deciding on the
final technique to be used in the graphic novel.

15. Digital Photography: This method I found to be the most effective in
quality compared to other techniques, this is because you can recreate
the scene and have a sense of the story being real. Thus meaning the
reader can enjoy it better and the audience who will be aged 8-15 can
look at the quality of the Picture and not need text to explain what
exactly is going on in the scene. The speed of the technique was
relatively quick as the equipment is very advanced and should this be
used for the final graphic novel then it would be a very fast approach.
Similar products for this particular novel have used illustration and as
far as I am aware this would be a unique way in telling the Folktale. The
resources required for this technique to be used are that of the characters
acting the parts, the camera to take the shots and the crops such as the
beanstalk.
16. Photoshop comic book affects: This technique I found added a lot to the
quality of the product and made the image look like it was meant for the
novel chosen, this was used in a way to make the story look more cartoony
and reach out to the target audience. This also added a professional edge to
the image and stood out to the rest of the techniques. The speed of the
process was quick however should it be chosen as the final design the
adjustments to the tone and making the images look to a certain standard
may take time. This is a commonly used effect in relation to the story and
target audience as many novels include the style as a way in developing
images and looking appropriate to the story. Using a more professional
method would mean the target audience maybe adjusted to an slightly
older age from 10-15 (both genders)Resources needed for this method
would be the software in the computers and the images to alter. Should this
method be used the images would be my own photographs and combine
two methods together to make the final design.
17. Rotoscoping: This method was I found lacking in the quality the other
methods had, this was because you did not get the sense of any characters
relating to the target audience. And that the images lacked the attention to
detail which the other techniques included. The speed of this process did
take time and should it be used again, the quality of the work will be
needed to be higher and will take a substantial amount of time for the
images to look professional. Similar products do not use this method as
much as they tend to focus on more illustration rather than adapting
images. The Audience for this type of method in the novel would be similar
to the other methods and children from aged 8-15 both genders as the
Folktale is seen as an entertaining. The resources needed for Rotoscoping
would be the software similar to the comic book method, the Image as well
to Develop, and again should this method be used the image used will be
from my own images taken and forming two methods together.
18. Illustration: This method I found lacked the quality needed for the graphic
novel, this method did not grasp the attention to detail needed in such picture
orientated book. The image needed to set the scene as well as show what was
going on in each part of the story. Unlike methods like the Digital photography
where you could refrain from using text as the image had a lot going on and
kept the reader wanting to keep looking. The speed of this process can take
time as when done properly it can look very effective on novels and as many
similar existing products use the method you can see why. The audience when
using this technique would be more younger than the other methods as it does
not capture that sophisticated style. The resources needed for this method can
be a pencil, rubber, pen, ruler and paper. Should it be used to a more technical
stage then maybe the software on computers.
